My mother is 41 years old, and she is in good health, but she does have a past, heart murmor.

She is experiencing SUDDEN shartp tingly, pain in her left arm, and she feels pain hitting her in the upper back as well...
she says her left arm and especially her left hand, feels SO COLD on the INSIDE of her body...she feels like someone is twisting her arm on the inside, and she is in alot of pain. she felt slightly nauseated while this was going on as well, but it wasnt as significantly noticable or bothersom, as the cold/pain in her left arm/hand....

any doctors ever heard of anything like this? is this serious that i should take her to the emergency room tonite? im mostly worried about anything stroke, or heart attack related...are these symptoms or possibilties? i am really worried please, i just need real MEDICAL answers, doctors, nurses..please....

thanks in advance.

Go to the Emergency Dept. Could be heart attack. Heart attacks can have arm pain and nausea.

Those are not typical symptoms, pre-menopausal women are at pretty low risk, and if she was told she had a heart murmur but not that it meant she had valvular heart disease, it probably isn't a heart attack. That being said, women tend to have atypical symptoms much more often than men. Men, indeed, tend to have the decency to have chest pain, whereas women may only complain of feeling tired. And she's in a lot of pain. Go to the ER, and they may do a lot of tests that show nothing, but at a minimum they can give her some pain relief and a little peace of mind.

I am an RN- work ER. Yes something is going on in your mother's Cardio-vascular system probably. Go to the ER ASAP. Call 911. Give her an full size aspirin (or 4-of the 81mg baby aspirins) Have her chew them. Check the pulses in the "cold" arm to see if there is one. She may have a clot in that arm or in one of the larger vessels before the arm from the heart. Don't delay. It is better to get a clean bill of health when you get to the ER rather than wait and find out it was something worse.

I'm not a doctor or nurse but I know that pain in the left arm could indicate a heart attack. If she's also not breathing normally or if the pain is unbearable then I'd definitely take her to the hospital.

there a few things to address...nerve root problems (pinched nerve in the neck) can contribute to the cold and tingly feeling in the hand, and it can be so bad that it can make one nauseated
arterial blood clots can cause the blood flow to stop to the affected extremity producing a cold extremity, but once could, it usually will not return to warm unless the clot disintegrates (not likely)
last, there are many confusing signs and symptoms of a heart attack...more likely left, but the right can not be excluded either...
sweating, clammy skin, toothaches, neck/jaw pain, shoulder pain, arm numbness/tingly, shortness of breath, and chest pain
since i work in the ED, i would rather see you mom and say everything is OK, then see you mom and call the medical examiner...please call 9-1-1
