Hello, I have been doing pushup for some time now. But ever since I have reached 100 push ups, it stops becoming sore for some reason. I don't think my body is adapt to it, because even though I do 100 push ups everyday, I feel 'pain' from 60 push ups on, just as before, In fact, these past few weeks have shown no improvements; I never get sore and I always get hurt from 60 push ups on. Why is that? If my body is not adapted, then why won't the muscle be sore the day after?
THANK YOU!

try doing it every other day.

also, you may be doing it too quickly. you're better off doing 50 slow push ups, rather than 100 normal-speed ones.

A couple things are going on here. Your body is a highly adaptive machine, which means it will adapt to any new stresses put on it. That's what's happened here, and that's why it's so important to change your routine once in a while. That may be a challenge if all you can do are pushups. Also, doing pushups every day will hamper efforts and is likely the reason why you're feeling bad when doing them. You should allow your muscles a couple days at least between doing them to heal.

Unfortunately, pushups are limited in that as the body adapts, you can't really add weight to it, so all you can do is add reps. This will only target the type1 muscle fibers that deal mostly with endurance and they don't grow that much. You'll see some muscle tone from development of these fibers, but that's about it.

Along with not doing the same strength exercise every day, try varying it a little by doing some incline pushups or dips using a chair. You can also try adding a weighted backpack when doing pushups, but be careful as this adds strain on the lower back.

Your body is becoming accustomed to the same workload. What you should try doing is either increasing the amount of push-ups you do or try to work on another area of your body. You could be overworking the arm and back muscles to the point where improvement won't be shown or felt as much, even though you're still probably building a little bit of muscle. Work on your legs or abs for a week and alternate that with your push-ups. Also try different amounts of reps each time, increasing by ten or twenty. If that doesn't work, you might be doing the push-ups incorrectly and you aren't working the right muscles, therefore you won't feel sore.

Hope it helps!

You have adapted..you need to do more of them.

Doing pushups is just like lifting weights....exercise until you feel sore. If your normal routine feels easier (and you leave feeling "not sore") up your reps some...

I did..back in the day I did as many as 165 push ups (a year after I started doing push ups!!!). I pushed until I couldn't push anymore...but I remembered what my coach used to tell me (your muscles are tearing when you are sore, that's the BEST time to exercise)

no pain no gain...good luck man

there are many reasons that cause soreness from exercise. not being sore doesn't mean much either.

as far as pushups go. the gains from them are very limited. the load being used is about 60% of the body weight. the muscles adapt very quickly and gains in size and strength are short lived. you can continue to increase the amount of reps that you do for endurance. with out an increasing load on the muscles there is no reason for them to continue to adapt, one of the problems with bodyweight exercises

sounds like it's time to start benching

You need to do your push-ups in sets, start with around 20, then to 50, then 80, then 100, so your really so a lot more push ups but your muscles will build and you will feel the tear in your muscles, and do this every two days, becuase everyday will not help, your muslces tear everytime you do streches, and then need to repair themselves to get bigger, every other day and in sets will help you more.
