The Bible never implied the earth was flat to begin with.
"It is he that sitteth upon the CIRCLE*
of the earth, and the inhabitants
thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the
heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent
to dwell in." --Isaiah 40:22
*Circle=Hebrew "chuwg",meaning "sphere"
*edit*
The only way to truly interpret the passage correctly would be to look into its original language. "Chuwg", the word used for "circle" is also used interchangeably with "round" or "spherical". Not to mention, that later on, in the book of Job, 26:7, it says "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, [and] hangeth the earth upon nothing". Job was scoffed at his time for proposing that the earth wasn't held up by strings, and you can't hang a map on strings, can you? Today we all know that it lies freely in the vacuum of space.

Isa 40:22. It is He that sits above the circle of the earth.
You have to be in space to see the world as a circle.
Isa 40:22 It is He who sits above the vault of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
The KJV says it better.

No, the closest they get is the old Hebrew word chuwg, which means round like a Pita. (pizza)
How would a desert dweller describe a tent as a balloon. They had no Idea of a spherical earth, honest.
I love that Alberto included a first level link to this

The only mention of the shape of the Earth is as 'round' or 'circular'... but that doesn't mean spherical.
e.g. if I draw a round or circular shape on a piece of paper, it's still flat. Keep this in mind when people try to tell you that the Bible says the world is round.
