Well ask him where he was stationed, ask him about his AKO, about his MOS, what a person goes through at MEPs, the highest rank in the military, and ask him to recite the general orders, soldiers creed, and the Army values. If he gets confused in any of these questions, he may be a liar..

Ask them what their MOS was, specifically what number not just the job name. If they give you a number go look it up. I'm sure you can type in Army MOS's on Yahoo with the number and it will give you the specific job title. If he doesn't get the job title and the MOS number right you probably have him.
BUT, Veterans, especially young ones can be cocky about their service time.

I ask him what is MOS was (Military occupational specialty)
Where did he go for basic, AIT,
I ask him the name of his field first if he said Army,
Does he have a good boy badge (Good conduct metal)
Sooner or later, he won't know what I'm talking about. GOTCHA!

Ask him to see his dd-214
If he doesn't know what it is he's lying.
PS It's the form that list your release from active duty and must be used for proving status.
