I would like to send the nurses and doctor who treated my mother for cancer a thank you card for saving her life. Would that be inappropriate or not proper etiquette?

Go ahead and send the card. It will make their day and prove to them that what they do for a living really does effect people's lives in a positive way.

Wonderful, please do so. Very good etiquette. Nurse here, and I really enjoy getting those notes. If someone was really special, you can call administration of the hospital, or wherever, and send a thank you through them, that way, the employee gets thanked, and a note put into his/her record.
If you wish, you could send or take flowers, or candy, or fruit, or cookies, but it isn't necessary, or expected, but would be appreciated.
Those notes to everyone get put on the bulletin board, and everyone gets to see. Please include a word or to about how the family member is doing. We really love to hear.

I think it is a good idea. People always like to know they did a good job so I would send it. My mom was in the Emergency Room near Christmas and everyone was extremely nice to us while we waited for news. I wanted to send them a Fruit Basket but I never did because I got too busy. I think it would have been nice to send it because they helped make a stressful situation easier to handle.

Personally, I think it would be a nice gesture - and I believe your mother's health care providers would feel the same.

Years ago, I sent the doctor who operated on my mom a thank you card. It was very delicate spinal surgery that could have left her paralyzed. Had it not been for the skill of the surgeon, that would have been the end result.

I think we forget sometimes that doctors and nurses like to feel appreciated just like the rest of us.

My Step mom is a nurse and when my children were born I asked her if it would be okay to send something and she said yea o/f. She also said that they love getting things like candy, cookies, anything edible. Good for you tho its good to see a nice person.

I think it's a great idea! They should know how much you appreciate their work. Send them a thank you card, I'm sure they will enjoy it more than you would believe.

Do any doctors send their patients thank you cards for giving them the business? Do any doctors send their patients' family condolence cards for those who did not make it? There are doctors who won't operate on patients who can't pay their fees.

NO...I think it would be very nice. I sent the surgeon that saved my life a nice letter as well as one to the CEO of the hospital where my surgery took place.

So far, everybody agrees.

Send it! Brighten their day!

My wife sends her surgeon and his partner Birthday cards. We get christmas cards from both.We view them as friends who happen to be surgeons. ((My wife had cancer))
