2000 wrangler...2.5L auto tranny..first of all i have changed the filter and fluid 2 times...i know alot about vehicles but not auto transmissions....when you first pull out..it will kinda slip..then when shifting to second it will almost vibrate you out of the seat...then make a niose in the transmission like a rubbing sound...not gears..then will shift in to secon...then from there on out excellent.once you get out of second you can floor it..use passing gear..ect..no problems...also when locked in 4 low only..this does not occur....and one more thing..on time it had no reverse..its just like when you put it in reverse it would sit still acting like it was trying to go forward and backwards at the same time...but it stopped doing that and straighten up and went back like new on its own..this was last summer and reverse still works...only the problem i listed above...any tips or anything would be great..ty

Have you checked the fluid level before you start the vehicle? If its low before you even start the vehicle, the transmission rear main seal has failed and the transmission fluid is draining into the transfer case, and it takes even longer for the fluid to get pumped back into the transmission. Also the torque converter may be draining down causing that problem by not having enough fluid pressure to move the vehicle. I would take it to a transmission shop and have it looked at before any further damage is caused.

I don't really approve of a Jeep with an automatic tranny -- my own (4 litre inline six) has a 6-speed, and yes it sometimes shudders when moving into second or third. I just kind of accept that; this is a truck built for when the earth was new.

In your case, however, I think I would take it into the nearest Chrysler dealer for a detailed check. If there is a transmission problem -- and I think there is -- it will cost you a hell of a lot of money, but that's better than being stranded on a beach somewhere with a vehicle that won't move.

These systems are prone to clogging with things. The orifice tube is general we have that issue all the time. The only other thing that can cause that is a "low charge" since you say its charged I would suspect a clogg. We had 5 of those engines in the shops this week alone with the same issue. The 98-2002 seam to clogg more the others and we can't figure out why. The newer ones so far don't.

first off, with the engine warm, i would check the fluid level with th trans in neutral, (dodge has had an idea for a while, I'm not sure what it is but...) i have seen as much as a quart and a half variance just by putting it in neutral. curios about which fluid you used in the transmission. standard atf will cause a few problems, such as a noise and or a slip.

seems like the missing reverse could be linkage. I have a 2.5 manual, sorrry our jeeps have crap transmisions. Think about putting something else in there, rather than rebuilding.

add some lucas transmission fix to it and see if it frees things up, if that stuff doesn't fix it you better take it to the shop for a rebuild.
