Ok...Today my boyfriend and I were driving down the street (he was driving). It was raining out so obviosly the roads were slick. We stop at a red light and BOOM we get rear-ended!! I look back and it's an old couple (handy capped sign hanging in the rear-view window and all). So we go to pull over and they speed away!! I got the license plate number, but there's one problem. Neither one of us has a license. Is there anything we can do?? There is damage to our bumper. Are we completely screwed?? I know we're idiots for driving without a license, but I can't believe they just drove away!! What should we do??

The bigger question is whos car were you driving and were you insured. If your car is insured you could report it to your insurance company and they could go after the other driver. If you go to the police to report it your admitting to a violation. If you say someone who has a license was driving the car was that person on your insurance policy. Some states your can apply for plate information on line through the freedom of information act. You could also go to the local DMV office and tell them what happened. Tell them you don't want to get the people in trouble with the police you just want your car fixed. I personally would try your insurance company first. Why are you driving with out a license?? Some states will lock you up for it.

Yep, you're screwed. Driving without a license voids your insurance, and is illegal.
The only thing you might be able to do is call in an anonymous tip about a hit and run you witnessed regarding the other car. Don't know if it would do any good, but maybe at least the old couple will have to get retested and may lose their licenses before they kill someone and drive off.
But you're going to have to foot the bill for your vehicle yourself. You've acknowledged the idiocy of your actions, but consider this. What if they had stopped, and it came out you didn't have a license. Then you would have been responsible for the damage with their car as well as your own, even though the accident was not your fault. No license equals no rights when it comes to accidents.
So park the car until you have a license.

Ok, first of all, yes you were both dumb*sses.
I am assuming that you are not insured either.
If the car is insured in someone else's name you can just have them file a claim for a hit and run. The court may not even look at who was driving your car since it is really irrelevant to the hit and run. Unless you are stupid enough to try to claim physical injury. If you do then the courts will start looking a little more closely. The surest way to really screw yourself is to get greedy.

How'd you both lose your licenses? why did you lose it? it depends on the circumstances and why you lost the licenses. I would contact a lawyer and seek free legal advice before doing anything crazy. Be honest with him about the license issue and see if there's anything you can do legally to get them for hit and run and have your car fix.
There's no excuse for what they did as they broke the law the minute they sped away. I wouldn't just let it go or pursuit it without first seeking legal counseling.

If you have a friend who is a cop, run the plate, and go pay them a visit. When they see you at the door, they may want to settle with you pretty quick. I had an old lady crunch my car and somebody got the plate number and told me. I went to her house and knocked on the door, and when she answered, I told her who I was and she wanted to know how z got her address, I told her the Louisville police gave it to me. you souldn't believe how her attitudechanged after that. I got my money real quick.
PS After she hit my car, she got out and scribbled on a piece of paper to make people think she was leaving me her name and number. Should have seen her face when she answered the door and saw my car in the driveway.

I know you dont want to hear it, but you're both dumb and screwed.
You're going to have to pay for the damage to your car, if you called the police and told them about the accident, then you'd most likely have to pay $$$ and wait an additional year or two to get your license.
Now... if you wanted to commit fraud, tell your parents the situation, or a friend with a license or something (I dont know your circumstances), and have THEM call the police, and say THEY were driving. Since the couple drove off they dont know who was driving.

Have a friend with a license say they were driving at the time. Or just report it, I kinda doubt they'd even bother to cite you for driving without a license as long as you reported it with your car parked in a driveway.

You should report this to the Police IMMEDIATELY.The worst they can do to you is a summary fine for unlicensed driver. But the hit and run driver will still be responsible for any damages or injury to you.
