This is a commonly used, fully manual 'student camera'. It only requires a battery for the exposure meter. Things to note with this model: the info in the viewfinder is rather sparse and it has a flimsy plastic body (don't drop it).
Other popular options are the Nikon FM, FM2, Pentax K1000, Minolta x370, ....

The FM10 is made by Cosina for Nikon. Along with the flagship F6, they are the only 35mm film cameras Nikon currently has in production.
Probably not a bad body, but not robustly built. You will have to be careful with how you treat it.
I would look for an older F body from Nikon. An FM2 or FM3a would be nice!

If you want a manual Nikon Film camera, I think you would be better off with a used F3 (the last pro quality non autofocus Nikon Film camera) - or an FM2

For an Autofocus Nikon Film camera, consider a used N70, N90 or N100. Any of these cameras can use autofocus or non autofocus lenses with the ability to use the built in light meter. All of them are better built than the FM10- Used film cameras are cheap because so many people have one to digital

Any film camera can take those shots, what you like is the photographer. An FM-10 works just like any other SLR camera, digital or film. There is no magic to that body, or any other. The camera captures the image you tell it to capture, nothing more. If you like the way your house is built, do you need to buy the same hammer the builder used? It isn't the tool, it's the wielder of the tool that makes a difference.
