I shot a guy breaking into my house about 3 years ago.
I don't know how brave it was, I hit him in the hip, I was aiming for his head.
Revolver from 30 feet isn't exactly accurate.

In the 7th grade, they integrated my school district. A high school boy on my bus pushed down a young black girl and asked her how it felt to be a spearchucker. I jumped between the two of them and took a sock on the jaw from him. When he realized he had hit a white girl, he freaked out.
I went to school and told the principal and he was expelled. My father tried to get the bus driver fired, because he let the whole thing happen, but it was back in the 60s and they didn't consider it a big deal.
I was under 5 feet tall when it happened. The next day, they painted "ni**erlover" on my locker and peed on my gym clothes.
She was the only black kid at the school and we rode together the rest of the year. We moved in the spring and I never knew what happened to her.
Her name was Cornelia.

As lame as it sounds, gotten beaten because I didn't want a girl to get hit. That was awhile ago. Now, I'm sure I wouldn't get beaten, as I'd hit back.
