A 650 CFM. should be big enough for that engine.

The original carburetor on this year's engine was the Carter Thermoquad (the one with the black center section) which was supposedly rated at 750 cfm. The Thermoquad, which had a checkered reputation, has been out of production since 1985. Properly adjusted carb flow rate is determined not just by the engine displacement, but by the intake, cam, exhaust system, rpm range and vehicle use. I think the other responders recommending a lower cfm rating are correct. A replacement for the original TQ is a good idea. Best wishes on your project!

Factory carb for the motor was the Carter AFB 600 CFM. If you have had work done to the motor and pumped up the compression I would go with a 650 or 700 if you’re running the stock manifold. If you have changed the manifold and you’re running a purple shaft then you need to go with a 750 CFM carb. Make sure you have selected the correct jets for the primary on the carb other wise it will run like crap. Most performance shops should be able to hook you up with the correct jets once you have given them the specs of the motor. The 360 motors can be built solid and can be very fast. One of my favorite motors. I love it.

Holley just came out with a 600 cfm size with center hung floats and vacuum secondaries. You would get great throttle response with this size and gas mileage to boot. Please do not listen to someones story about a double pumper Holly with mechanical secondaries. That's a circle track or drag race carb.

If its mostly stock, id say minimum 650 CFM, but 700 would do ya fine to.

edelbrock 650 double pumper with out a doubt, but make sure that it is adjusted properly, and that you don't stray too far away from a gas station.
