ok, I'm not here to knock anyone's beliefs or anything like that, but, I'm wondering, it says in the bible, thiefs, adulterers, liars, murderers Etc Etc... will not be allowed into Heaven. Why then do people believe in a religion that says "you're not good enough" Also, such as in 1 Cor. 6:9... "men should not lie with men" is that giving a double standard so that women can lie with women? I haven't found anything about Lesbians in the Bible... Also, with so many different religions out there today, who can say which one is right, perhaps they are all just wishful thinking and there really is no God or higher being??
Anyway... just some fleeting thoughts in my brain

you make some good pionts. the great thing about the Bible is that while it says "we're not good enough" it also says that God loves us in spite of that. In the OT he gave the Law to the Jews so that they would figure out just that "you're not good enough! you'll never be good enough to get into heaven!" it sounds bad, but it's the best thing EVER because now, instead of focusing on the Law and all of the rules in the bible, we can focus on having a relationship with God through the sacrafice of his Son, the messiah, Jesus. God wants us to know we'll never be good enough, we'll never be God, but God loves us anyway. Thus, there's nothing we can ever do to make God love us more than he does now or less than he does now.

AS for the gay thing...yeah, all homosexuality is a sin, it was just more common for men to be with men back then i believe. All homosexuality is a sin but God loves homosexuals as much as he loves heterosexuals. remember, God sent Jesus for the sinners, not the saints.

Perhaps all religions ARE wishful thinking but in the end, you're responsible for the decision you make about what you will believe and what you will follow.

hope that helps!

Good for you and your thoughts. And I mean that.

And if by "Bible" you mean the Christian's New Testament, there is no more flawed a collection of essays on the planet; with the same source demanding "an eye for an eye" while telling us to "turn the other cheek."

As far as thieves, liars, adulterers, fornicators and so on not being allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven, just keep in mind that this rule would exclude a significant portion of the clergy (and not just the modern clergy, like those Born Again leaders being caught with male hookers and Meth: the early Popes had some of the most extravagant sex lives in Rome, and in Rome, then as now, that's really saying something).

On to "no men lying with men" versus no mention of women; remember that the gospels were penned my men and, let's face it, guys always dig a little lesbo action.

Which religion is "right?" As religion is a fabrication of Man, you can be fairly confident that none of them are right. However this in itself does not disprove or negate the possibility of, as you put it, a "higher being." It just means that, if there is such a being, you're not likely to find that "being" being caught dead in a church.

Keep thinking, but remember to have fun. Because leading a dreary life is the only real sin.

The point is that all those sins can and must be forgiven in order to receive salvation. There are many religions that teach you can live any way you want as long as you go to confession or repent every Sunday. The scriptures do not teach that.
When the Bible refers to "men" it generally means "mankind" and that includes women. Generally!
And yes, you can absolutely know for yourself which way is right and correct. Read Acts Chapter 2 and see for yourself how the very first Christians knew they had received something from God. All of Jerusalem knew it that day! What you see recorded there is the first time the Holy Spirit was given. Jesus had told them to go and wait for the power. That is what they did and He filled them with the Holy Spirit which is the power we need to live for God. Without that we cannot do it. He knew that! That's why He gave His life so that we could receive the Holy Ghost.

Read Acts 2 again. Pay particular attention to verse 38 and 39. I received this exactly as it is described and I know scores of others who have as well. It is just as real today as it was then. Nothing has changed.
The only wishful thinking is by those who insist there is no God and therefore no accountability. I was one of those until God literally stood before me one night and made me very aware He is indeed alive and well. Those who insist He does not exist have not met Him yet.

The bible is an extremely sexist book It clearly promotes slavery. And can be interpreted to support racism and genocide.

It was written by committee over a long time, possibly using 2nd or 3rd hand information.

It definitely could use a lot of cleaning up. So many contradictions. It doesn't come anywhere close to meeting the modern standards of a legal document, even though it is often used as such. People quoting passages by book:passage:verse, like it was a book of statutes.

The purpose of religion is to organize cultures and nations. When you have religion, you have them vs. us. People naturally want to establish a sense of belonging, so what better method then the one you can never prove or disprove. The "no God" rule is also strange to understand because we have knee jerk reactions for survival. The life structures and surroundings function in unicen like a perfectly timed clock. The life design is obvious to see for anyone who takes their time to study it. Plus, the observer... yes you, you react and respond to everything that exists and not by mear knee jerk reactions, but through thought and logic. You see yourself and feel like you understand your existance, however you do not actually see the observer, the raw energy and power that fuels the out core you call your body. What is this thing and what happens to it when the body can no longer sustain it. It's energy and by rules of conservation of enery cannot be created nor destroyed, so where does it go? It's not the belief that's important, it what energy you gove off and how your energy will transer into something we still do not understand. You choose, your choice.

Well leave the religion at the church. Jesus is not a religion. Except him as your savior and be born again.

Be very careful about following some of the advise given by some of your answers. As with your own answers, don't encourage people to disbelieve God, unless you want to be responsible for them when you stand before God. Anyone who encourages you to not believe or that God is not real is of the devil. It is up to each of us ultimately to make the finial choice of where we spend eternity, and you whining on here, does nothing but fish in the non believers.

It sure does speak of women as well.
I came by it just the other day
and it might have been in
the book of Romans yes 1:26
but even if it didn't, you know that throughout the Bible
when speaking about "men" or "mankind"
it refers to all of mankind, not just men...
Can you imagine if it was to always quote:
"and women", "and females"...
When it's not there, it applies to us all usually
and when He wanted to speak of "women"
such as in the book of Proverbs or Peter,
He clarifies it...
With all due respect,
much of what you say sounds like a bit of "wishful thinking"
but rest assured that God is real, that unlike many of us here,
He wrote nothing for nothing,
that He does have a small group of people on the earth
(if you compare a few millions to billions! it's small)
who took the time to sort out through the junk
that the empire of false religions on earth had dished out
since about 400 years after Christ's death...
beginning with the Jewish high priests
who couldn't wait to kill him
(they even wanted to kill Lazarus who was resurrected
by Jesus after being dead for 4 days... '
cause his very being alive was a testimony to the fact
that Jesus was more than the "sinner"
they were claiming he was...
and they didn't like that anymore than
people like to hear today that the religious ideas
they were brought up to accept and believe
had no basis in fact.
Sorry if that's not what you were looking to hear but...
I can't say anything else about it!!!

Many Biblical scholars believe that Paul is making a "list" in 1Cor 5:10-11, and 6:9-10 to "create the contrast between former impurity and present purity and to serve as warning of the consequences of sinful living..."
These lists were used by rhetoricians of the Greco-Roman era to give impressions of what is wrong and right. They were used over and over, and in many different situations. Paul is just picking up this ideology of list making, and is not making a specific reference to homosexuality.
Many versions of the Bible are poorly translated. Here is what the NRSV Bible (a scholarly version) says in 6:9-10:
"...Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers - none of these will inherit the kingdom of God."

You always need to read in context.

He will save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).
If you are such a person and repent, you will go to Heaven, that's what Jesus came here for.
Paul said don't be deceived. A lot of people are deceived into thinking that they can live however they please and still inherit the kingdom of God. Not so. And thus, these words should come as a searchlight to our own hearts. If I desire to inherit the kingdom of God, these things should be searching my own soul. For the unrighteous are not going to inherit the kingdom of God, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, not abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

And such were some of you: but you have been washed, but you are sanctified [that is, set apart for God's use], you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God (1Cr 6:11).

Women are called whores and harlots in the bible.

Romans 1 has an admonition against women being sexually involved with other women.

It is true, all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I know that about myself, and I would guess any honest person would agree that is true about themselves. That's why I grateful for Jesus, who paid the price on the cross for our sins.

To know what is right and true, one has to have an experience of God, and an experience that you can trust His word in the bible as His actual word. It's very good you're both seeking and asking good questions. But may I warn you? Be careful on Answers. There are alot of people who will lead you astray, who do not know the bible or respect it as from God. Check any answer against scripture. I pray God guide you into His truth.
