In many, perhaps most situations, you won't be stopped until at least 5 to 10 miles over the posted limit. In ALL state the posted limit is absolute. That means ANYTHING over the limit
CAN get you a citation. Some states have a charge of 'speed in excess for conditions'. That means in poor weather, you can get a speeding ticket for LESS that the posted limit, if you speed is dangerous for the weather conditions.

Most people think there is a 10 mph grace. This is totally incorrect, and not even recognized in some areas. Someone the other day got a very expensive speeding ticket for doing 2 mph over the limit. Speed limits are absolute. It's best to be slightly under, than over.

A cop can pull you over for going 1 mile over the speed limit.

For arresting I think it depends more on the danger resulting from the speeding and not the speeding itself. I once knew a guy who got caught doing 130 in a 45 zone but just got a ticket since it was a long back country highway and in the middle of the night with no one around.

it is anything over the speed limit. Depending on how scheming the cop is, is when you will get pulled over. Lets say speed limit is 60 and you're going 61. Legally, you can be pulled over, but most cops don't pull you over until you're going at least 10 over. (In this case 70.) Even then, they might just flicker their lights at you to notify you of their presence and authority, and to slow down before they force you to.

I got pulled over doing 24mph over the speed limit. The cop said..."one more young lady and I could take you to jail!" So...in Texas, 25mph over the speed limit will get ya arrested.

I am not sure of the speed. I got pulled over going 24 over the posted speed (they are just suggestions right?). I believe it has a lot to do with the stop. For example, did you pull over right away, were you nice, were you drinking or using drugs? Stuff like that.

Technically a cop can give you a ticket for going 1 mph over but it would be easy to beat in court.

I have heard cops say "8 is fine but 9 and your mine"

It depends on the state or local traffic laws but a safe bet is 30 mph or more over the limit.
