You can't really "fix" gingivitis. You can keep it from progressing by great oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, and mouth-washing).
If the gingivitis has progressed to the point where you have deep pockets that are catching food and retaining it there until tartar forms, then you are in a losing battle. It will get worse and worse. At that point you need to get not just a cleaning at a dentist but a nasty deep scaling cleaning to empty those deep pockets. Of course they will probably fill up again because they are that deep.
You will eventually need to go to a periodontist who will perform a horrifying operation that cuts open those pockets trimming off the excess depth. When that heals (which will be in less time than it takes for your bank balance to heal) then you are back to using home hygiene again.
In short the quicker you get professional help the less expense and less grief there will be.

Listerine and Crest Pro Health are two good mouth rinses. Colgate Total toothpaste was the first toothpaste to get the American Dental Association's seal of approval to treat and prevent gingivitis. As much as you want to avoid seeing a dentist, you may need to pay him/her a visit just to make sure it's not something more serious like periodontal disease. Remember, a patient who diagnoses and treats themself has a fool for a physician.

you can floss regularly (after each meal), and gargle with a 50% solution of water and H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide)...it tastes peculiar, but it will help heal the inflammed gum diseases...

You mean as in brushing and flossing, and avoiding tobacco? I think you could handle that.
