Why when asked a question..and i am not just referring to this forum...especially in cases when the question is derived from the old testament...they say oh thats in the old testament we dont REALLY follow that part...just the NT....well then why follow the ten commandments...and where in the new testament is there anything about abominations like homosexuality that christians get so heated morally about?

Silly, Jesus sacrified himself so we don't have to follow the old laws anymore so the OT is to be ignored when it's something *we* were told not to do...like wear clothes of more than one fiber or eat shellfish. Then it doesn't apply because Jesus died for us! But if it's condemning gays, well then OF COURSE it applies! Jesus didn't die for THEM!*

*sarcasm ;o)

Me too. A lot of Christians pick at the bible to make them feel better, but the bible should be read as a whole and understood based on everything in it, rather than picking things out.

First, what is the purpose of the law? The bible says the purpose of the law is to show God's perfect standards, and to show that we can't keep any of it. Did you know that it is not only homosexuals, but also the cowardly, and all liars and adulterers who will end up in hell? How many people do you know who have never lied? I haven't ever met someone who has never told a lie.

So if you try to keep the commandments, just like Civil Law, if you break one law, you must be punished. Because God is so Mighty and Holy and Pure and Perfect and Flawless, and Just, and Righteous, and because God is eternal, lawbreakers will get eternal punishment. That shows how much God hates sin.

God also loves and he is patient and kind. He knows that man can not live by His perfect standards, so he came down as a man and lived the perfect, sinless life to pay for your sins. God's fury was poured out on Jesus, His son so that you can go free in God's courtroom, if you accept Jesus' payment for your sins. It's that simple.

God exists. Jesus lived 2000 years ago, and proclaimed to be the living God, and then gave his body as a sacrifice for you so that you can be forgiven by God.

What's stoping you from surrendering your life to God through Jesus? Is it love for sin? Is it outright rebellion? Is it just because you never understood it? Is it procrastination? Another day is never promiced. If you died tonight, where will you go?

Some Christians pick and choose, yeah. But where OT vs. NT is concerned, the fact is that Christ changed the law. Mt. 5:17 "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them." He changed 'an eye for an eye' to 'turn the other cheek', he kept the ten commandments, abolished animal sacrifice, etc. In other words Jesus made major changes to the law, but kept much of it. This is why there are differences between the OT and the NT.

There are different opinions on how the OT fits with the NT. Now some will say "Follow the OT and you'll be al right." But others will say the opposite. But to me it all connects. The OT has literal and symbolic references of J.C., which is then fulfilled through the NT as mentioned by someone else. And really BOTH BOOKS are to be followed.

Christians read the entire Holy Bible. When we try to help people who can understand and benefit from Scripture, we select wonderful passages for them to read. We always recommend reading the entire Bible. We do not mainly pick and choose. We Love to quote the verse's that will benefit the ones who need a quick boost In case of a sad person who is thinking suicide or when someone feels there is no way out, then a person with knowledge about the Bible will pick a verse or a chapter that will help the downtrodden. We Love the Ten Commandments and it is our Laws of this Land. When it comes to helping, I pick and choose to help the one who is in need.

Some have Chinese menu religion-one from column A, one from column B. And yes they sure do pick and choose. If they took the time to really study the scriptures they would know that with the new covenant of Jesus, ALL the laws of the Old Testament are gone. I often ask if they keep kosher or put menstruation women in a tent in the back yard. (I am a sort of Zen Episcopalian).

Anyway, Jesus gave said there are only two commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Pretty simple huh?

Did you particularly go with of your person will to be Christian, or did you finally end up taking on the religion which you have been surounded via? -- Picked it myself. I ordinarily stay in an anti-Catholic section. Did you heavily evaluate (or reassess as you became older) your decision of religion? -- sure, I went via a learn era (nevertheless am, actually), as could all Catholic converts. Did you learn different cultures and religions? -- Mmhmm. replaced right into a member of a pair distinctive religions beforehand of the single I carry now. What study did you do on Ra the sunlight god earlier figuring out on the holy trinity over him? -- I regarded up those supposedly pagan similarities and actually, none of them confident me that Christianity replaced right into a dupe faith. that's a in demand thought not supported via lots of evidence, yet that concerns little in easy of religion.

The ten commandments were the basis for creating a covenant with the Hebrews. Later on came the Law. The law was a guideline for righteous living which the Jews were to aspire to in order to be acceptable before God. Jesus came to complete the law which requred a blood sacrifice for atonement of sin. His blood washed away all sin of those who beleive in Him. As for homosexuality, read Romans chapter 1: 24-32, it will answer your question.

Why are you being so critical over christians? You act like them following their beliefs and customs is crazy just because you don't understand it. And I have never heard of a christian say that things in the Old Testament shouldn't be followed. I have heard christians say that the OT testament dates back to a time period where we can not understand what it truly wants us to do as with any ancient religion you're going to have problems with misinterpretation. Why follow the 10 commandmants? Well hell thats like asking somebody why do they eat. Thats like asking somebody why do they wear clothes? That's just something that we DO. As you being a non believer you're going to have a hard time understanding this. And as for homosexuality?....this should do it Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

There is a LOT that they pick and choose at. Do you know that in the NT, Jesus says, MORE than once, that in order to go to Heaven you need to sell everything you own and give to the poor? He says it MORE than once, and no, He's not kidding, and no, it's not open for interpretation, and yes, that means EVERYBODY.
I personally don't know a single Christian who's done anything CLOSE to that. Now, I would never judge the average Christians that don't, but you bet I'm going to point out that fact to those who are spewing hatred towards people (like homosexuals) based on Bible quotations. Those are the people that are hypocrites, thinking that they have the right to judge others, when they themselves are openly and blatantly disregarding and disobeying something that Jesus Himself told them.

It's like they create loopholes as excuses when they don't want things to pertain to them. Ever notice how each church thinks it has all the right answers and that the others don't? Often times, churches will condemn each other. I know Baptists who insist that Mormons are going to hell. Same with 7th Day Adventists, who pick their scripture to cover their salvation while condemning others who don't observe the Sabbath as commanded in the 10 commandments.

And if all of those rules are optional, then why are they in the bible in the first place. Is this "designer" religion -- make up things to suit one's whims?
