Cardio is best for those areas. Machines need not apply. You get a better workout doing squats, lunges.
Try leg lifts- but instead of just laying on your side like normal--take your leg from a 45 degree angle in front of you, up and over to a 45 degree angle behind you. Don't let it touch the ground. Back up high in the air to 45 in front of you. That is 1. See if you can do that 20 times. Burns like crazy!
Squats are great. Just keep your legs spread as wide as your shoulders. Try one legged squats. One foot is relaxes on the ball of your foot while the other leg takes all the weight of the squat.
When you do your lunge, make it like yoga. Hold Warrior one (google it if you don't know what I'm talking about) while you do your bicep curls. Then switch legs while you do the other side bicip curls. Multitask!
If you are looking for a machine, stairclimber or bicycling are best. But that biking can't be a relaxing stroll through a garden. That is where most people mess up. If riding that bike didn't cause your heart to race and sweat to run down your face, you might as well have just been sitting on a park bench for all the good it just did ya.
To get the best workout for legs thights and butt you really don't need to spend money on a machine.

While seated. place an 8 - 12 inch ball between you knees squeeze it, then flex your glutes as you squeeze, all the while you're flexing your abs.
That Bowflex would cost a lot more than the ball.

Before you buy an expensive exercise machine try jump-roping. I know it sounds silly but it works your legs, butt, abs,and arms. It is also fun, easy to do, and very inexpensive. It can't hurt to try!
