I bought the tank used. it had an alligator in it so it was only a 3rd full. Its sitting empty right now. I want to clean it up as best as possible before I put it to use. 300 gal. NICE. It's like a dream come to in my price range.

If the water in the tank was very hard you may be dealing with more than just a calcium or lime build up. Very hard water will etch glass as well as leave a deposit. Clean it with the vinegar as best as possible and whatever is left is probably etching. There unfortunately isn't anything you can do about the etching, but it isn't as noticeable once the tank is filled.

You have to scrap it off. It is a bit difficult but you have to keep going at it. if it persists, you might have to empty out your tank and use some kind of chemical that will remove it. Calcium deposits don really get this heavy in a tank though, i wonder what you have in your tank.
If you are too lazy to empty out your tank you can also try contact a professional or as magicguywhoihateman said you can use vinegar but im not sure how well that works. Check your ph in the water and give us more details.
