I'm a light drinker, so I can never finish a bottle of wine in one sitting. How long can I continue to drink the wine after it's been opened? How should I store it?

My husband is a light drinker, too. We usually just share a glass. We do love wine with dinner though. Tonight's red wine was opened about 6 days ago, and we both thought that it tasted better today than previous days! It had a nice berry flavor.

Wine doesn't go 'bad'. It will turn to vinegar, but that won't make you sick. You can drink it as long as you can stand the taste! When you don't like the flavor as wine save it and use as vinegar - what a cheap way to get good vinegar!!

Once it is exposed to air it will begin to turn to Vinegar. As already stated it be good for about 4 days. It last longer, but, you may notice a difference in taste. Now the wines that come in a box can last longer. The wine is in a plastic bag and it just close down as you pour the wine and not allow air to get in. If, you have a good Liquor Store they should be able to explain this better.

Please don't freeze it!! That would kill all it's flavour and "bouquet"!!

There are different kinds of wine, some have actually to be opened the day before to fully appriciate it's proprieties...
In general you should simply close the bottle with it's original cap, and if it's red wine, don't put it in the fridge for the same reasons i wrote above, just store it away from heat, if it's white, capped in the fridge will do it...

Anyways,to answer your question, i wouldn't drink it after 4-5 days, but you can easily tell if i'ts gone vinegar by smelling it..
Enjoy!

I read this in a book:
1 buy inert gas for your local wine store. It displaces the oxygen in the wine.

2 A new device called a wine savor. Its a flexible plastic disk that you roll up and inser down the bottle neck keeping the air out

3 Vac-u-vin = pump remove oxygen from the bottle.

red wine at room temperature for a long time as long as you close it after every glass you pour
sometimes months

white wine in the fridge it tends to loose taste and you should drink it faster maybe a week+

After you open a bottle of wine, recork it and stick it in the fridge. It lasts no more than 4 days for drinking. Its still great for cooking though. Add it to your favorite chicken, pasta or meat dishes for extra flavor.

I had a man at a winery tell me he freezes his partial bottles of wine in plastic bottles. Fill them as much as you can so there isn't any air in them and put them in the freezer. When you are ready to drink them, put them in the refridgerator to thaw and enjoy. I believe he said they would keep for two months or more. He also said he can keep wine in an airtight container for three to four days. Hope it helps.
