A save the date card is typically sent anywhere from 6 to 12 months in advance of the wedding. It mainly for destination weddings, weddings that will occur during summer vacation periods or around any holiday and for any wedding that will require travel by most of the invited guests. It's just kind of a "heads up".

I am not 100% sure but I went to a wedding show recently and they had save the date magnets for your fridege. Basically its almost the same as an invitation but it comes in a magnet form or a calendar or something. If they got the magnet kind, the person puts it on there fridge so everytime they open the door, they will remember the date of your upcoming wedding. Sometimes they are better then invitations because they can get lost under a pile of other papers or bills etc. Go online and look up save the date magnets and you will see them. It's a different idea and I really like them.

Save the dates just tell your guests the date of your wedding far in advance (usually around a year before) so they'll be sure to be availble that day, especially if there will be a lot of traveling required so that they have time to make arrangements. Invitations have all the rest of the information (location, time, etc.) and are sent a couple months before the wedding.

Save the date goes out 2 months earlier than the invitation.
It allows people more time to plan for wedding (vacations, sitters & such). It is really more for out of town guest or those you know stay busy or travel a lot.
It is often a magnetic for refrigerator & aways less formal & informative Usually date & maybe town or time.
I love the save the date cards so I can calendar the weddings I do not want to miss & get my hotel rooms early.
We used them for my daughters weddings.

save the date is telling human beings whilst the marriage is you are able to grant the date without counsel like time or the place The invitation is inviting the guy to the marriage you may desire to have all of the counsel in this one No you do no longer choose save the date while you're on a good funds, that's some thing you are able to pass and save funds

save the dates are to send to people who are invited to the wedding to give them the time to plan for attending, esp. if your wedding is a "destination" wedding that they might need to budget for, plan vacation days for, etc.

they don't need to go out a year or 6 months before, but they have to go out before the formal wedding invitation itself, which typically is 6 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks, in advance.

one problem with save the date communications is if you downsize your wedding for cost reasons or if there is a death in the family and you no longer want a large wedding, then people may feel slighted not to get the invitation. so save the date announcements do have some small risk built into them.

Save the date is a card or some other form of communication that is sent out to tell your guests to "save the date" of your wedding. These go out when you know the date.

6-8 weeks before the wedding your invites go out.

The problem I see in doing it this way is what if you change your mind about your guest list and you've sent these "save" cards out? oops!

I highly disagree that Save The Dates are pointless. In some instances yes, you probably dont need them, however, in other cases such as destination weddings where people will have to travel and at holiday times when people's weekends usually are filled with parties and events they are a really good idea.

To be perfectly honest, do not waste your time with "save the date". Basically it is a pre-invitation. You shouldn't waste your $$$ because it is pointless. I would send annoucements to those who you do not want attending your wedding and invites to those you do. The annoucements will tell them "hey, im getting married, so think of me and think of maybe getting me something..."

Good Luck!!
