I just read the new article from Associated Press titles "Pope says evolution can't be proven"

What science degree does this man hold? What University did he attend? What studies on evolution did he conduct to make such a conclusion?

I'm not trying to offend anyone or any religious figures...as much as I hate modern organized religion I do have respect for the original institution and the untainted messages of all religions and spiritual teachings.

No one can prove how we got here because no one was there. There is no way to test the science that claims how old the earth is because we cannot test it on something that we know is just as old. Also, you cannot say G-d created it (just to be fair) because you cannot prove that. This is faith, what you believe

No science can be proved. Proof belongs with mathematicians. Science does not deal in proof. Science looks at the evidence and suggests a hypothesis to explain the evidence, changing or rejecting the hypothesis if necessary. A hypothesis that explains all the evidence, observations and experiments and makes predictions that are accurate achieves the status of theory. A theory is open to change if newer evidence shows it to be wrong.

For instance, the Newtonian theory of gravity has been around for nigh on 400 years. It was used to get men to the Moon, to send the Voyager space probes to the outer solar system, it will be used to get to Mars. It is, however, wrong. At the quantum level, Newtonian gravity doesn't work but Einsteinian does. Einsteinian also works at all levels but it is far more complicated than Newtonian which is adequate for things like space exploration.

Gravity can't be proved; the germ theory of disease can't be proved; electricity can't be proved; evolution can't be proved. Even so, the theories of all of them are robust and are mainstream science.

He's absolutely right when he says it can't be proved. Even scientist agree with that. I'm guessing you took a few courses and the professor told you it is provable beyond a shadow of doubt. That's what happened with me. Not so.

There has been evidence collected to try to make a case for evolution. The same evidence is also available to creationists. Both make their case using the same evidence. How so? Because there is no proof. It can not be tested. It is pure subjective guessing. The Pope for the most part, is right. Scientists even agree. It's time you dropped the dogma and get it right.

No it isn't proven fact. Catholics are free to beleive, not to believe or be neutral on the subject of evolution.
If a Catholic believes in evolution he believes a infinite God was the starter of the process.
Also many times well believed theories are found later on down the lines by science as having holes in them. Evolution is a theory.
The days and years mentioned in Genesis were probably not the same as our days and years.
There is lots of evidence for evolution and lots of evidence of an infinite God. It is possible for both to coexists.

Neither evolution (there is STILL a missing link) nor the Genesis storie(s) of creation can be proven.

Rather than spending life energy on this question, which cannot be resolved at the moment, why not concentrate your efforts on solving problems in the world. Get out of your head and go out and make a difference.

It is not so much HOW we got here, but that we ARE here.

Evolution cannot be proven, that is why it is the "theory of evolution," because that is all it is, a theory. They have found fossil skeletons that are similar and claim that they are branches in the same evolutionary tree, but this theory is only plausible and not a certainty. It would be like taking two pencils and saying that one evolved into the other, when in fact they were manufactured independently.

What the Pope said was "... that the immense time span that evolution covers made it impossible to conduct experiments in a controlled environment to finally verify or disprove the theory.

``We cannot haul 10,000 generations into the laboratory,'' he said. "

He is correct. Cheers :-)

The church will never stop lying to it sheeple. Religion is the world oldest lie. To keep the lie going the church needs to add more lies. Thats why it' so funny when a theistically infected type says, "the truth will set you free". If only they knew the truth...lol

The pope says a lot of stuff. Why the media reports it is beyond me. Why do some of us bother to listen or read about what he says? We're all entitled to out own opinion on things, but because a person has been given the title of pope what he says is supposed to matter more I guess.
