Depends on how you sell. You can go a whole work week and not get a sale, and then next week get a sale, rip the guy off, and make 3,000. LOL.

There are too many variables here to say how much any one person will make selling cars. It depends on the volume of your store, the number of sales people, the length of time you sell (because referrals and repeat business goes up with time), your interpersonal skills, your product knowledge, and the compensation plan of the dealership. I am employed selling cars right now (Chevrolet) and last month (March) we had one guy make $7000 and another make $9300. March was my first month so I didn't make nearly that much, but the potential is there. Some of my coworkers didn't try very hard and only made their minimum guaranteed salary of $1600 for the month.
There is a perception out there that car salespeople make a ton off of each car. This is largely not true. Typically salespeople make a percent of the price over invoice, but mark-ups are low on domestic vehicles (Ford, GM, Dodge) particularly passenger cars, so usually a salesperson only makes whatever the minimum commission is per new vehicle, usually $100. The average salesperson sells 8 vehicles per month. Most dealerships have volume bonuses and other incentives to help improve upon the minimum commission. A person can average anywhere from $200-450 per car depending on the bonuses and incentives and the number of cars he or she sells.

You make as much as you put into it. Entry level is about 25k, a good salesman in large store should push 80-100k per year with commission and factory bonuses.

This is based on a 52 hour work week, free car and insurance and other cash bonuses. Not bad for a lowlife occupation, huh, gofish ?

From what I've heard, not a lot. You have to be there and at it for a while to get established. Some car places will hire new guys and tell them to get their families to buy cars. After all the family members buy cars, then the salesman isn't selling like he did, so they fire him and hire another new guy and start the thing over again. good luck

I sold cars for about 8yrs...the first year i made approx 38k...and the last year was closer to 60k. some people are more dedicated than others. some people sell more used cars (make more money) than others. it also depends on the product you sell. i sold toyotas which is the #1 selling car right now.
