In Mexico, 1987.
I wanted to pay him 20 american dollars, but when I opened up my wallet, he saw I had 80. That was suddenly the price. For having a little stick of weed on my car floor, that some OTHER gringo dropped there.
That was probably a week's salary for him.
Another time in Peru we were hassled for making too much noise in a little village around midnight. We gave the cop a PHOTOCOPY of an American $50. ha ha. The next morning we left as soon as it was daylight.
OOOOooooohhh all you cops are giving me a thumbs down? I'm shakin in my shoes.

Bribing the police has really become a thing of the past because of video cameras and camera phones the police don't take chances too often anymore. At one time it was done more frequently maybe 80's70's and the way to do it was when you were stopped for traffic violation you would ask the officer if you could buy him lunch, he would know what you mean it was usually $20-25 if he would accept he would shake your hand and you would give him the money

I had to bribe an immigration official about $100 at the airport in Mexico City one time so I could leave the country.
I felt so wierd sneakily palming a bunch of pesos and giving to the guy in the middle of the airport!!! But it saved me about 150 bucks in fines!

when we had a visit in the Philippines one time driving a motorbike with my ex BF who's likewise a foreigner of that us of a, we were stopped by using a police officer. That officer requested me first the registration huge style (i became the motive force) of the motorbike. It became placed below the seat yet we can't open it considering the fact that we did no longer have the most for that. Then he requested my motive force's license. Upon understanding that we both are not to any extent further voters of the Philippines, he stressed out his different officer who became meters faraway from him (because it became checkpoint). because it ought to take a lengthy time period to communicate and clarify, I instructed him i am going to offer funds instead and launch us immediately because we were in a hurry. I exceeded him PHP500.00 pesos and it became all ok. ($a million=PHP50+-peso). usually, police officials there'll close up their mouth in case you may hand them funds, in inspite of situations. ;)
