Eternity is a duration without beginning or end. In some religions eternity is the timeless state into which the soul passes at a person's death.
Forever is without ever ending.

Because it's not life. (Think of life and eternity as two people)* LIFE cannot be ETERNITY. They are the complete antithesis of each other. Life is a line, with a beginning and an end; eternity is a circle with neither. Eternity is supposed be eternal. Life is to be transient.

Why does an eternity last forever? Who knows? But something that's neverending had to be called something.

It doesn`t. in Canada a place in the cemetery that is categorized as eternally, lasts 99years, after these 99 years you have to pay it again. How interesting eh?

Eternity doesn't last forever. It is timeless. it existence outside of time. But lasting forever is easier to conceptualize so we describe it that way.

This is beyond our human limited minds can comprehend. Only God is all-knowing and can give us understanding on truth that He wants to reveal to us. He does this thru the Holy Spirit that indwells the lives of the believers of His Word and His Son who died for us so that we may live eternally with Him in Heaven. This is why the Christian Faith does not rely on our human understanding or logic, but on God/Jesus who reveals truth to us, His children who are willling to reach up to Him in humbleness and make Him master of our lives. God Bless

"Eternity" is now, the spacious present. There are no minutes clicking by, stretching into a vast uncertain black hole of endless time.
It is very hard for us to understand this, but it is so.
