Can't comment on (reflexology or acupuncture as they're not my field - although if it is the right therapy for you, you would see nice results) but in the last couple of years, I've treated 10 long-standing cases of tinnitus with Homoeopathy. 6 have no symptoms at all now. 2 others have improved somewhat & the other 2 only noticed minimal improvements. It is a difficult one but as with all things, it's about getting to the cause of the symptom rather than the symptom itself.
Other tips I give are take zinc in a multivitamin as lack of zinc is associated with tinnitus. Vitamin B12 helps noise-induced tinnitus (take in a B complex). Ginkgo Biloba increases circulation to the ear so might help.
Check your teeth - impacted wisdom teeth and tooth decay can both be behind this problem. Cranial osteopathy can release tensions in the neck & head which can trigger tinnitus. Hope this helps - good luck.

It all depends on the individual - some people do benefit and others do not.
I have treated someone with tinnitus and it did help a lot.
Only one way to find out, just have a course of treatments to see if it will help. Usually 1 a week for 6 weeks although if only a child you could do once a fortnight for a few weeks and see how it goes - see what the Reflexologist suggests after the first treatment.

I have tinnitus from time to time: there are a few reasons folks do get tinnitus, inflammation in the jaw area, anxiety, and grinding teeth. I've always been prescribed an anti inflammatory medication for 2 weeks and it has worked thus far. Also, to not eat anything such as steak nor chew gum for a few weeks to give your jaw time to relax. I can't see how sticking needles in your body would alleviate tinnitus. Best of luck to your cousin.

Elsie I worked next to an induction melter to melt platinum and rhodium. The electronic machine tested under 90 (87 -88) decibels so the company said it did not need to be insulated for sound. The sound was a high pitched whine, very similar to what I hear while I'm awake. I tell non believers the sound in my ears resembles compressed air escaping from an air hose
I've suffered from tinnitus for 20 yrs. I've been to three ear, eye and nose specialists. The only answer I got was no answer.

Sadly there is no cure for tinnitus.
I've suffered with it for years - caused by playing in bands from an early age.
I've tried acupuncture/white noise/herbal remedies but really the best thing is just distraction.
I have to fall asleep with the tv on to drown it out.
It can be caused by one off trauma or persistent noise damage and a hair (or several) inside the ear breaks or bends therefore causing the constant ringing.
Very loud music could actually cause further trauma so he should moderate this.
I have been told that 'Ginko Bilbao' helps - sorry I've probably spelt it wrongly, but your local herbalist should be able to identify it. Worth a shot but, as I said, it is incurable so he just needs to learn to not let it frustrate him.

try anything cos it must drive him mad at times.
Different treatment works for different people.
My dad and brother suffer from it. They always have a clock in the bedroom with a loudish ticking for distraction from the ringing but it dosnt keep everyone else awake.
Good luck x

Although they can be beneficial for this ailment, I find Hopi Ear Candling is the most effective for it. Alot of patients come to me for Hopi Ear Candling because of tinitus and every single one has found it helpful to them! However, tinitus is not curable therefore complementary therapies can only alieviate syptoms associated with tinitus. Ignore Dr Frank - HE sounds like the charlatan to me, for someone who's a very busy man, he has alot of time to spare on here! Dr Frank would rather be damned than try out something which could actually benefit him, all because he is stuck in his out of date text book ways! Alternative medicine is nothing to be afraid of, and is proved to be very useful for alot of people - especially with conditions that conventional medicine itself can not help.

I guess you could give it a go. It must be awful for him. I'm not a big believer in alternative midicine, but its worth a shot.
