Router by far!
I have built probably over 100 boxes and I will tell ya.... After the router came along that jig saw crap is for the birds.... If you get a router to do your cuts... The jasper jig on partsexpress.com is seriously that best $26.00 I have ever spent on car audio!

Use a jigsaw with a blade for cutting metal, which will give You a smoother cut. You could use a router, but You'd have to use a jigsaw to cut the rings which guide the router.

The easiest way to cut plywood is with a rotozip saw. If you don't have one maybe a friend does. there is a attachment for them designed to cut circles that works great. otherwise use a jig saw with a fine or plywood blade.

Either one, but create a compus using spare wood. One end secured at the center and the other secured at the tool.
An elliptical shape will require a string and two points at the middle as foci. (see math books.....)
