How did you buy a car with dealership plates, and not have a bill of sale or registration? If you buy a car at a dealership, even used, you must have it registered and insured before driving it off the lot. Also, the dealer should have fixed the cracked windshield before selling it. If you didn't buy from a dealership, you are pretty well screwed, you need to be better informed when making a major purchase like that.

If you drive your car with a cracked windshield, you may be cited for it. I once had a cracked windshield and an officer pulled me over. He told me that I can get a ticket for that, and I simply explained to him that I recently gotten it cracked and I will fix it today. He told me I could go, but if he caught me again, he would cite me. Advice is, eventually you will have to replace it sooner or later, so if you have the money now, mind as well replace it. You will not only save yourself from getting a potential ticket, but also from getting yourself seriously injured. Remember, possibly one more hit to the windshield going a certain speed may shatter it indefinitely. Shop around, you may find a deal.

Some states have a $0 deductible on windshields. So even if you have 500 deduct, it is still $0 to replace the windshield.

And, it is illegal to drive with a busted windshield in most states, check with your DMV.

I believe you can get a ticket for that. But I see lots of people driving around with busted windshields.

Depending on where you live, it is probably illegal to drive with a large cracked windshield. You might want to look into your areas laws and regulations regarding that.

Depending on the county and state you live in, this is a moving violation. You can get pulled over and sited for it, my sugeetsion is spend the $150 and get it fixed. Start with calling junkyards first with your make and model, $45 average for used.

yeah, if you could post a pic on photobucket i could help more. if its merely baseball sized and not obscurring your view, then go for it, just save up enough to pick up some new wheels. if you are nowhere near the amount youll need to buy a better car, i say just save up a couple bucks and replace the windshield..

If it's in front of you and can't see anything at all then fix it by buying a new or you'll never use it. If it's on the other side of the driver seat then leave it alone and later on when you get more money try to buy a new one.

No. It reduces the structural integrity of the car. In a roll over you could be more seriously hurt. Also, road debris (rocks etc) can now more easily penetrate the passenger compartment
