Our skin is crawling with bacteria. A needle piercing the skin can carry that bacteria into the body and cause an infection.
Alcohol kills the bacteria on the skin and prevents infection.

i'm with them... sterilization... but i have no idea why they do it for people who are getting a lethal injection (like the death penalty) just seems like a waste to me...
