It would seem this is a rhetorical question but sadly it's not.. They don't 'think' others should tolerate their intolerance - they DEMAND it - and they don't stop there - after that you can't go tolerating anyone else's opinions either!

Intolerance is basically rooted in absolutism: the notion that a belief idea or concept can "hold" absolute truth. Absolutism turns into intolerance when the individual or group defines their identity in terms of said idea(s); which then turns the idea into a Sacred Cow which must be protected and promoted with all the fury and energy one would use to protect their own life.
Opposing views become not just alternative or possibly less-accurate models, they become the Spawn of the Devil Himself and great self-righteousness emerges to purge the foul falsehood from the Earth.
Neath question Kimberly!

I've found the rabid atheists the worst as far as being intolerant and judgmental, not to mention simply rude and insulting. They actually made the fundies and evangelicals who run around telling people that don't believe exactly like thay do that they're going to hell, look good. It's not easy making the fundies look good, they're been the thorn in the side of some christians for a long time, trying to pretend they've been given Jesus' job as judge, but the rabid atheists have actually outdone them. Why any of these people act like this is beyond me, ignorance maybe?

if you're like most people, you're wanting answers saying that Christians are intolerant. they really aren't. If you'll notice atheists and muslims are the most intolerant as a whole. atheists are offended by the whole notion of God and persecute Christians as much as they like. in the schools, on sites like this, and all over the place. Muslims (or at least many of them in the Middle East) believe non-muslims are evil and must be killed to achieve a global Islamic community. Being a Christian, I and other Christians are taught to hate the sin and love the sinner. In other words, we are supposed to tolerate homosexuals, atheists, etc. But we have to recognize that what they do is sinning before God.

I suppose that intolerant people are incapable of imagining any opinion outside their own. So when people mention "tolerance" and the possibility that another POV might be valid, the first person is threatened, as if allowing the second opinion delegitimizes theirs. So they grab the closest available weapon, that word, "tolerance", and say "But what about ME?"

Some thoughtful answers, so I really need to add nothing but to say Ed Snow said it in one sentence. I was going to say
intolerance does not tolerate intolerance.

And you, my dear Kimberly, are the judge of just what will be tolerated? Or do you have a higher power that tells you what to tolerate? Will there be a court of appeals?
So is rape and murder to be tolerated? Shop-lifting?
We are, of course, all intolerant, just of different things.
Personally, I think most people should be crucified, at least, for a little while, so they get the picture, but that's just me.

Most intolerant people are close-minded and refuse to see any views outside of their own, like they are the center of the universe or something, hence forcing the rest of us to tolerate it.

Some intolerant people suffer from a lack of humility and think they are right so others must tolerate them.

It further proves that alot of people manipulate the bible and its teachings to suit themselves. I believe in God, however don't practice any "religion" ( I searched and searched came up empty) however, the bible teaches not to judge others that's God's job. So that would include tolerance. the bible taught from the bible to love your neighbor as your brother so why would they chastise others for their beliefs? I am tolerant of others views and hope they are of mine. I wish more people were. have a great night as well
