Son of the faithful prophet Enoch; father of Lamech and grandfather of Noah. (Ge 5:21-29; 1Ch 1:1-4; Jude 14, 15) A descendant of Adam through Seth, Methuselah was of the eighth human generation. (Lu 3:37, 38) He enjoyed a life span of 969 years, the longest of Bible record, and one that has become proverbial for longevity. He died in 2370 B.C.E., the year in which the Flood began. It's Hebrew. I think it means: "one who was sent".
The name Methuselah consists of two elements. The first part is equal to that of: Methusael, (mat 1263), which is one of a few words to denote man or mankind, and used most often to indicate a male capable of combat. There is an obvious and grim connection with the word (mut 1169), to die; corpse.
The second part comes from the verb (shalah 2394) meaning send, send out, let go. The charge of the verb becomes clear in the meaning of the derivatives: (shelah 2394a), a sort of weapon that was thrown, like a javelin; (shilluhim 2394b), sending away; (sheluha 2394c), shoot, branch (Isia 16:8); (mislah 2394d); undertaking (that to which one stretches out the hand), or pasture (where animals get to roam free); (mishloah 2394e), outstretching, sending; (mishlahat 2394f), discharge, deputation.

Methusela was the Son of Enoch and the oldest living man in the Bible,he is supposed to have died at the time of the great flood .

It means "man of the missile". If someone told you otherwise they have misinformed you. I know of several sources that say that Methuselah's name means "man of the missile" or "man of the dart".
