I am looking into a bowflex but it is too expensive. What other similar products are on the market and is the quality of those similar?

Have you considered looking around at Play It Again sports (or whatever your local recycled sporting goods place it)? Often people buy a product like that and a few years later it is just collecting dust and they wish they hadn't spent the money.

My neighborhood has an email chain where you can email questions to everyone in the neighborhood. Often people are giving away plants, selling a car, or looking for professionals for working on their house. If you have one like that you could ask if anyone is interested in selling a Bowflex.

Also consider taking out an ad in the newspaper. I know most of the local papers around here allow you to place online ads only for free. Then people who are interested in selling their Bowflex could contact you as long as you are able to pick it up from their house.

You could definitely buy one 2nd hand for much cheaper.

As far as the quality of cheaper products, you have to sit on it and play around with it. Sometimes the cheaper product is better than the most expensive (especially with elipticals) but often the cheaper one is just crap and especially hard to change positions. Go to a store and play around with the different types that are in the price range. Ask the guy how to change the machine from one position to the next. Get some hands on experience--thats the only way you will know that you aren't just getting a very expensive but horribly cheap piece of work out equipment.
