Here's some tips:
1. Always buy gas before being on empty.
2. Buy a gas can and just keep it empty in the car.
3. If you run out of gas, take your gas can and ask for a ride to and from the gas station.
This really shouldn't be a problem. In 28 years of driving I have never run out of gas, except when once driving someone else's car. Their car had the audacity to actually be out of gas when fuel gauge made it to empty. All my cars have always had 2 or 3 gallons left when reaching empty on the fuel gauge..

Usually a gas station has a gas can that you can borrow. But they'll want something as coladeral like your drivers license or something. That way you can get enough gas to drive back to pick up your stuff & also fill up your car.

Some people gave you some good options here. Never assume you are alone, first say a prayer for help, then ask fellow students or faculty for help. If you are stuck all alone and your school is in a neighborhood, knock on peoples door and explain the situation. There are some real good people in this world that will help you out. Then thank the Lord in Jesus name and pass on the kindness to some else in need.

stop a friend leaving the parking lot, get a rid to the closest gas station, borrow a gas can from the gas station...
