Having been the one to interview, it just is a thing of proper Etiquette to ALWAYS wear pantyhose with a skirt suit.
I know, not comfortable sometimes, but it shows a level of class/professionalism to wear the hose. Also, it has to be pantyhose, not stockings or anything that can show skin or the tops of the stockings if you sit the wrong way, especially if a woman is on the team that is interviewing you.
And, no it does not matter at all about age, because they cannot even ask you that. If you are uncomfortable in the hose, you should go with a nice pair of slacks, but I will say that sometimes a skirt and hose shows a higher level of professionalism than slacks.
Also, make sure the hose are not patterned, and are color that is professional (not something like Neon Pink).
As a side note, the skirt should not be too tight or short. Yes, men will drool over you wearing something like that, but remember, women can be the ones to interview, and they will not think highly of you dressed in something like that.
Good Luck!

An old saying goes "the more clothing she wears, the more she is taken seriously". If the suit is professional and the skirt passes the sitting test, then by all means, wear it. As for the hose, if it's hot or if you will be fussing with them all day, then don't wear them. Whatever makes you comfortable.
P.S. the sitting test is where you put on the skirt and sit down. If the hem rises above your knee then it's too short. Also don't wear it is you end up flashing the world when you sit down.

Some girls look intimidating and sexy in a manly outfit such as a suit and tie. However, for guys your right it's considered gay. It's just how society judges it. Guys use to never wear pink either but now there's tons that do. More and more things are being accepted into society as time goes on so who knows, maybe guys will wear skirts without being called gay one day. Men I guess just feel they have to keep their masculinity. Yeah it would be odd to see a man in a skirt but oh well, if you want to go do it, not like you should care what other people think anyways.

Wearing panty hose is much more appropriate than showing off your bare legs.

Panty hose are the answer, unfortunately. The look without the hose just isn't right--kinda unfinished.
