found me with life threatening wounds, would you pray for me if I asked you to? Now bear in mind that I am probably not going to make it but I am begging you to please pray for me, would you or would you tell me ,"No"!?

Please understand that , personally I would not ask a stranger to pray for me. I guess I was just trying to guage the "heart" of Atheists. I see that in many ways I have had the wrong opinion of you on the whole.
To the first person who answered I would say that you might want to check your heart as well.
I guess I got a bad opinion of Atheists from the (sometimes) cruel answers and questions posted on here.

To Ms. Glitterkittyy, there is no need to be cruel. I am sorry you decided to go from being Sothern Baptist to where you are now. If you ever truly believed then you KNOW the truth. I pray that the truth will draw you back. See, I will do my own praying for me and you.

I'm a life long atheist and worked as an ambulance attendant while in college. One day I had a call which turned out to be a motorcyclist who had impaled himself on a 3 to 5 inch diameter tree branch. We worked with the local fire department to get the guy out of the tree and cut off the branch on either side of his body. In the ambulance, on the way to the hospital, the victim whispered to me that he thought he was going to die and that he'd never been baptized. He became quite agitated and pleaded with me to please baptize him, so I did. I sprinkled his forehead with a little sterile water and said, "I baptize thee in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." Then I held his hands and recited the Lord's Prayer, which was/is the only prayer I know. He thanked me and died in surgery about an hour later.

I know I did the right thing but, because I'm such an explicit atheist, I often feel like a terrible hypocrite about it. I've always rationalized that I did it for him, because he was dying, and he certainly didn't know I'm an atheist so I imagine I did the right thing. I've kept this a strict secret for almost forty years because I'm deathly afraid of the Christian bigots who would surely beat the crap out of me if they ever found out what I did.

I would. First, of course I would make every effort to get medical attention, and were that not available, do everything in my power to help you.

If my praying for you and/or with you would help you stay calm and give you hope, it would be an act of kindness to pray.

Arguing theology with an accident victim would be cruel and pointless, and you will probably find that most atheists are not cruel.

I would be too busy assessing your injuries via what we call a rapid trauma assessment and doing whatever it took to preserve your life. We can pray later. If you're talking I know you have a patent airway for now, and you can give me a past medical history so my "partner" can record it for the trip sheet. Okie dokie? Hang in there and don't move... do not shake nor nod your head, to prevent any possible spinal injuries from compounding themselves... etc.

Wyrmfell... never pull anyone out unless you know how to assess the scene's safety. Only if a car/vehicle is in danger of explosion do you pull a patient out. Scene and personal safety is a MUST or else you're patient number whatever.

I would due what I could to save your life. If you were dying and beyond hope, I would probably attend to anyone whom I could save rather than let them die while I comfort you. If nobody else was there, and I would do what I could to comfort you. If praying made you feel better as you died, then I would pray with you as you died. I wouldn't believe it has any effect however and it would be only to comfort you in your final moments.

I'd tell you that I don't believe in god and that I'd better see what I can do to help you, or get people around that can help you asap. I' think I'd feel awfully guilty afterwards if you died while I was doing fake prayers just to comfort you, while I maybe could have actually done something useful to save your life,

I would first try to rescue you in the conventional sense (ie. pulling you out and calling 911). If it was definitely terminal, then I would pray. Peace of mind is the greatest gift when a sure death is involved.

Yes. If it would comfort a dying person I could pretend to pray with them. It would be the compassionate thing to do and be meaningful for them, even if it compromised my beliefs.

In return, a question for you...if you came upon a Muslim/Wiccan/Satanist - would you "engage in some ritual you don't believe in" to comfort them?

I would even use Bible quotes if needed.

Why on earth wouldn't I do what a dying person begs for?

(I'd also be selfish and try to save your life, sorry for that)

Yes. I would do whatever I could to give you hope.
I personally don't believe in any kind of divine intervention, but I do believe in the power of mind over body in some regards.

I would do whatever you requested. There's never any reason to be mean. If you asked me to pray I would.
