Carbon offsets are a sham. Planting a tree does not remove carbon from the above ground carbon cycle. The tree will eventually die and decay or get burned up in a fire.

Planting trees is good for other reasons but not offsetting fossil fuel carbon pollution. For that you need some kind of underground carbon sequestering process.

Investing in technologies that might reduce use of fossil fuels in the future doesn't offset carbon today, or any day soon. Actually removing the carbon (dioxide) we are adding above ground wont happen for a long long time.

Your best investment would be purchasing something that reduces use of fossil fuel today. Put some solar energy on your house and spend on improving your energy efficiency.

Oh, and vote with your money and at the ballot.

It will improve the environment only if you purchase your carbon off-sets from the company Al Gore owns. You know, the one he buys all his carbon off-sets from... It gives his the clean, pure halo of a massive polluter that can not be touched. Because he is a liberal democrat and his lifestyle can not be called into question. He has a holy mandate to tell the "Little people" how to live, and he has been blessed.

It is a joke and not very funny as it appears they are trying for a new tax. The plants we have are doing a great job and don't need our polition putting their 2 bits.

It is just a way for Gore to feel better about himself. This way he can pollute all he wants and still preach about being holier than everyone else.
