I use a large frying pan, put asparagus in bottom, one layer only, add enough water to just go half way up asparagus, a pat of butter, a bit of lemon juice. Cover and simmer just until tender crisp, it takes only a few minutes.

I prefer mine roasted at about 400, tossed w olive oil, salt & pepper; and sometimes a spritz of lemon juice. This another good recipe:
Sesame Asparagus
Serving: Serves 4
1 Pound asparagus
2 Tablespoons peanut oil
2 Tablespoons minced shallots
1 Tablespoon sesame seeds
2 Teaspoons soy sauce
1 toasted sesame oil
Freshly ground black pepper
Trim tough ends from asparagus spears. Set spears aside.
Heat a 10-inch cast-iron skillet for about 2 minutes over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon peanut oil and half of the asparagus in a single layer.
Cook for 3 to 4 minutes without turning. Shake pan occasionally. Turn, and cook 3 minutes more. Asparagus should be bright green with brown spots.
Add 1 tablespoon shallots and half the sesame seeds, and cook, shaking the pan to toss asparagus, for 1 to 2 minutes or until shallots are transparent. Do not let them burn.
Add half the soy sauce, sesame oil, and pepper, and cook 30 seconds. Transfer to a plate, and keep warm. Repeat with remaining asparagus. Keep warm until ready to serve.

Depends upon my mood. If I have oven space, I like to raost them. (See recipe below.) If I don't have oven space, I do them in a skillet.
Fill a skillet w/ about 1½-2" water and a pinch of salt. Drop in asparagus, cover w/ lid, and cook about 6 minutes, depending upon thickness. Rearrange about half-way thru so the ones on the end make it to the center of the skillet. You don't want them more than about 2 asparagus deep; if you have more than that, cook in batches. Remove w/ tongs and add kosher salt and/or your favorite sauce (love hollandaise!)
Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan
Serves 4
2 bunches asparagus (1½ lbs.), washed and ends snapped off
1½ Tbsp. olive oil
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
¼ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 450ºF. On a rimmed baking sheet, toss asparagus with olive oil. Season with S&P to taste. Arrange in an even layer on pan, and sprinkle w/ parmesan cheese. Roast until asparagus is tender and cheese is melted, 10-15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Boil a pan of water - drop in the asparagus for say 3-4 minutes.
Remove them from the boiling water...
Then plunge in cold water right away (to make sure they don't continue to cook with their own heat).
Then you can saute them for a couple of minutes with a little butter and season with salt and pepper and/or lemon juice.
Not sure if that is the best - but it is nice and easy and it will taste good.

I like to steam it. I clean it, and put it on a rack with a small amount of boiling water below. I keep a careful eye on it so that it doesn't cook to much. Less than 10 minutes.
My daughter likes to put it in a pan, drizzle it with olive oil and put it in the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes, then put it under the broiler briefly.
I've also stir fried it for a Chinese menu.

YUM- I love asparagus! It is so tasty when it is steamed. I also like to make hollandaise sauce and drizzle it on the top of the asparagus. Yummy!

I brush mine with olive oil and minced garlic; then roast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes on a shallow dish at 450 degrees.

Blanch it quickly in boiling salted water until tender but still crunchy. Then you can eat it like that or you can saute it, grill it, roast it, etc...BTW, use white pepper with asparagus instead of black, it brings out the natural sweetness.
