I took it by the Hyundai dealer today and he gave me an appt for next monday. They told me it's okay to drive but the airbag wouldn't deploy if in got into an accident. Is this a normal occurence from time to time with airbags?

Of course the car is safe to drive. Unless, of course, you are an unsafe driver.

People drove cars for at least 50 years before airbags were even invented, and the population is still here. You just have to drive safely and defensively. Did the airbag make you forget how to do that? Don't depend on the airbag, depend on yourself.

Your vehicle should be safe to drive. You were informed correctly. When the light on the dash is illuminated, the system is inoperative. Since the system is so sensitive and complex, the problem could be any number of things from seat belt pretensioners to the control unit under the console to a problem in the steering column or dashboard. The only way to determine the fault is to have a scanner hooked up to it and have the codes read. Being less than 5 yrs old, make sure to ask if it is under warranty...It should be

You probably have a bad sensor and this will disable the air bag until the fault is cleared by replacing the sensor. Good luck and drive safe this week anyway

your dealer is right. and its not really common. i have seen it happen a few times though.
