I loved it.

Yes it does change you into a better person for the rest of your life in my opinion.

Just like everything else in life, there will be good things and bad things while you are in.

But I am sure the overall experience of it will be worth it to you.

OCS is tough...I was enlisted and did parris island (nothing compares to Marine Corp Boot Camp) but I give the officers a lot of credit. I had some outstanding officers when I was in the Corps (mid/late 70's). One guy (our Company CO in boot camp)...he had obviously been busted (he was only a sr. capt) was at Chosin Resivoir in Korea...the Frozen Chosen. Not sure if you know Marine history, but the greatest general in Corps history was chesty puller. When the chinese had the marines surrounded and out numbered 10 to 1 he said we are surrounded, that means we can attack in any direction. anyway this CO was a HARD marine. He made the DI's seem tame...he gave us a speech as we were ready to graduate boot camp and he told us you are only basically tarined marines, You won't be a real marine until you sneak up behind your enemy, slit his throat and feel his warm red blood run down your hand. Anyway i digress. The basic school at quantico is very good and very tough. The marine officer is a hell of a guy from what I saw. Just being around them motivated me to finsih college when I got out. As to what is good or bad...it's double edge sword...the marines are very military (unlike the other services)...so you get the esprit de corps and teh marine attitude and swagger, but you also are removed from the "real" world...good luck on your decision. When I was getting out I got asked to go to OCS (full college scholarship), as i had a high test score and an impeccable record...plus I was a bad ***...haha. I decided against it...10 yr commitment was too much for me. I was ready to be a civilian....again goodluck

I'm retired Navy. But, I spent well over half of my career with the Marine Corps. Given opportunity, I always chose going green over blue. And now, seven years out, I miss my beloved Corps. And yes, I would gladly go back to Iraq if asked to do so. Alas, too old and too slow.

I spent 10 years in the USMC and I served proudly
I would go back if I was of age and able

The USMC is made of MEN you will lay their life down for their country

MEN who still understand the meaning of honor

Freedom is not free
