Haha i just went and counted one of my bread loves which wasn't open yet and there was 16. It really depends on the type of bread you buy though. Usually about 16 to 24 slices depending on how thick or thin the bread is cut.

Kings mill brown bread medium cut has 20 slices in a loaf including both end cuts. Bought from sainsbury's uk

I actually counted one time. In a loaf of Safeway white, there were 21 slices. Odd, isn't it?
