Take your dog to obedience training. This is really the only way to get him trained.

He goes outside when the door is opened because he wants to go outside and play and explore. If you can't walk him nicely on a leash though, it must be very hard. You could try getting a short leash and just stop when he pulls. Walk around with him holding the leash pretty tight to practice. If he walks ahead, pull the leash back a bit, so he knows he did something wrong. It's really hard to explain on the internet, so I suggest just going to obedience classes. Basically, he just has to learn that YOU'RE the one setting the pace, and that if he pulls, then you're not gonna take him anywhere.

I have a 2 year old boxer, (also had 2 previous boxers) my boxer was a hyper walker too. I bought a leash attachment that goes over the nose. It looks like a muzzle but its not. The chest is the strongest part of a dog as far as pulling goes. This puts pressure on the nose when you pull it, it doesnt hurt the dog but lets him know you are in charge. Also never let your dog outside first even on a leash, YOU lead him. Good luck and remember YOU ARE THE BOSS lol. I know easier said than done, but it does work!

I have a boxer and I got him when he was 12 weeks and he is 1 yr old yesterday. Boxers have a lot of energy and need to be trained very well...if you don't have the time you need to get him trained...on a leash you should use a training collar and a short leash. when he starts to pull you need to stop walking and make him sit....Every time he pulls or acts inappropriate you need to stop him and make him sit...he needs to have complete attention on you at that moment...he shouldn't get up til you let him....every time the door opens you should make him sit and give him a treat once he sits and doesn't run outside...then he will understand that when the door opens he will learn to automatically sit and stay and not run away...Boxers need to have some discipline in (not by being mean) there life...You need to be the pack leader...An animal cannot control your life...they also need alot of exercise....You need to be able to take him somewhere to run and play or you need to take him on long walks...once he has learned how to walk on a leash with you and your children....good luck and I hope that I have helped you.

Boxers are a stubborn breed. It would be a good idea to enroll him in an obedience class so a professional dog trainer could work with him. Also, I know it's hard to punish your sweet boy, but you really need to give him some sort of discipline when he runs away like that. He can't be doing that- he endangers his life and the lives of others when he runs off like that. They have obedience classes for very cheap over at Petsmart (if you have Petsmart in the UK).

Boxers are renowned for being hyper! Dog training classes sound the thing you need - but you have to give it some commitment. Also, try buying a Mikki Muzzle for walking - they cannot pull, and just go round in circles instead.

Punishing your dog when he gets home is your first mistake! You are only teaching him that IF he comes home he's gonna get it. Use POSITIVE reinforcement only! First off, never let him off leash~~even when he is in the house. He needs to learn that being off leash is a privilege. Tie the leash to you if you must. If you choose to take him out, start in the yard. Give him a longer lead, and call his name. If he does not come, MAKE HIM COME by pulling him GENTLY but QUICKLY to you, then say COME again. He needs to know that his attention should be on your command AT ALL TIMES!!!!Make him sit when he is at your side and give him a treat. Do this over and over again for about 20 to 30 minutes a day. Once he's got this down, do the same in the fenced yard OFF LEASH. If he does not come, start over with the leash. He will eventually get it.Until he comes when called, do not let him off leash. It will take a lot if consistency to make this work.

it sounds like you need to work on being a firm dog owner. it sounds like he's a little out of control and you dont seem to be doing anything about it. Its important to establish that you are the pack leader when you are walking your dog. that means you cant let him lead you, pull you, or be out of control on leash without checking him. if he pulls you too much, stop, make him sit and then start up again at your pace. also dont give him too much leash while you are training him. that is in essence what you are doing, training him to walk with you and not the other way around.

Buy a Gentle Leader or Haltie. It goes over the nose and dogs hate it. My female Border Collie went nuts the first few times I put it on her but she got use to it and it corrected the problem. Be firm and don't give in.
By the way Dont hit him to punish him, a good firm sharp voice usually does the trick.
Hitting just makes them fear hands and that can lead to biteing.

Go to your pet store and buy a Halti. It will keep him from pulling/yanking on the leash. My mom had to buy a halti for her Walker Hound and i tried it on him yesterday just to take him out to the bathroom and he never once pulled.

It goes over the dogs muzzle and clips together behind the ears. The part that hangs down under his jaw attaches to his regular collar incase he slips out of it he's still attached to something. And then you clip the leash to the halti.
