Why do mormons think that it's ok to add to the Bible? I have nothing against Mormons... I respect them a lot... They are very faithful and devout in their beliefs. But I just don't understand why or when in the history of Mormonism, that John smith decided, ok... I'll add to the Bible, and call myself a modern-day SAINT... Sounds a lot like a cult... No offense mormons.

Yeah, no offense taken...

Penguin - good answer...

And what is "appended"...the Book of Mormon in no way takes the place of the bible, it is another testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon and bible compliment eachother, they both:
teach the gospel
testify of Christ and His divinity
teach us about our eternal destiny/nature
are an ancient record

It wasn't John by the way, his name is Joseph Smith and I know without a doubt he was truly a prophet of God and that he restored the fulness of the gospel to the earth through the power of Almighty God.

So what you're saying that everything after Deuteronomy 4: 2 must be disregarded and discarded? The Book of Revelation is just one book of the 66 that are in the Bible today.

The Book of Mormon is a separate set of scriptures that attest to the divinity of Jesus Christ. It adds nothing to the Bible, but clarifies doctrine that had been lost from the Bible.

John Smith was the fellow Pocahontas took up with; Joseph Smith was the young man who had translated the gold plates into what is now the Book of Mormon.

You see? You take a little bit of information and distort it to suit your tastes--exactly what all the other anti-Mormons do. Why don't you log on to lds.org and read for yourself what is the truth? I mean no offense to you either, but do ask that you read about Mormonism before going off on tangents.

That would be Joseph Smith and the Mormons only believe in the bible "so far as it is correctly translated" which means pretty much not at all they believe in the Book of Mormon. It is a cult founded upon Free Masonry and some ancient Scottish rites and Joseph Smith's own special twist. It is a satanic cult.

if you are referring to revelations when it says not to add or delete from the book then i would have to say you are not understanding the book properly. the bible consists of 73 books(for catholics) and 66(for protestants), when it says this in revelations it only applies to adding or deleting from the book of revelations, most other books have other authors. i am not mormon/lds but just wanted to point that out to you. many people take revelations to literal when it is a symbolic writing, the events relate to the destruction of the temple in 70 ad, the mark of the beast is understood to be emperor nero and you can see many aspects of the catholic mass in the writing, for the latter part scott hahns "the lambs supper" covers this in detail or you may find more on it at this site

the site has many articles by top apologetics regarding a wide range of topics, sorry to stray from the premise of your question but i did want to bring this to your attention. god bless.

They do believe it's wrong for man to add to the Bible. They believe Mr. Smith was a prophet and therefore, it was God adding to scripture, not man adding to the bible.

Mormons believe that so-called "Christians", are the huge sinners, because they're telling God to "shut up!"

this thing that is in Revelation that says not to add to the Book of Revelation is also in the old testament, but the new testament was added read Deuteronomy chapter 4 verse 2
Also his name is Joseph Smith Junior, and he didn't name the church Jesus did. and it is beyond obvious you have not read the history of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints.

It hasn't.... they just made lots of different books separate to the bible. It's different than "adding to the Bible".

Besides, the Bible never says not to add anything to it. John the Revelator just says not to add unto or take away from the Revelation of the Apocalypse. John himself actually "added to" the Bible after he wrote Revelation; his 3 epistles and his Gospel were all written after Revelation, technically speaking.

does the bible say just not to add, or not to change, meaning removing books is also bad?

if the latter, then Luther did a big no-no.
