Just wondering what should be the basics for new kittens...I'm adopting them from a co-worker and they haven't had their shots yet...what type of kitty litter, a good brand of kitten food, and the first trip to the vet should be....(it's been a long time since I've had a kitten so it's good to have reminders)

Oh! Two sibling kittys! Wonderful. What fun! We use "Special Kitty" cat litter and feed with Purina dry but for kittens, wet food would probably be a better starter, however check menufoods.com to make sure the brand you choose is not on the tainted food list. Then pick a name brand from there and get one that is diet-specific for kittens. By all means, go to a Vet for a check-up for both. Enjoy!

I think you should enjoy the first period of time with your two new room-mates. They will acquire a lot of your time, but you will also have a lot of fun.
Keep them inside to begin with (I don't know if you plan to have them only inside or both inside/outside). For a couple of months at least. When you plan to take them outside, go to the vet and get them their shots. If the kittens are female, you can wait to 10 months old before you fix them (but be careful, try the pill), and if they are males, you can fix them at 11-12 months old.
I have fixed many many cats in my life, I have seen that when the cats are fixed at the age over, you normally don't experience any complications and the cat is a more happy cat, if I can put like that.

Concerning good cat food, I will keep my peace. These days you never know. Why not try to smash some leftovers and give them that? No bones, no spices.
Kitty litter you should try different brands to find out what your cats like, but normally something that does not have way too much perfume, and that also stick together when they have been in the box. It's so easy to remove and the pee does not stick to the bottom of the box.
Good luck!

If you call your local vet they can give you a regimen to follow for their shots. Natural Balance is the only food I will feed my animals, and my kittens love it. Plus it was never on the recall list for the poisoned cat food. You can view a list of the recalled food by clicking the link below:

Tidy Cats Scoop Small Spaces Cat Litter is great for multiple cats and really helps with the smell. You will want to take them to the vet ASAP for a checkup just to make sure they are healthy. Your vet will be able to give you all the pointers you need. Make sure you have a lot of toys for them, kittens love to play. A scratching post is a must, they will claw your carpet and furniture. Keep food and potty areas separate from each other. Kittens are like babies so make sure the litter box is not too far for them to go. Once you place the litter box and introduce them to it, you wont want to move it to another place. Keeping them indoors is the safest for them. Give them plenty of love and have fun.

First stop is to the vet for their starter shots. Be sure to keep up on all of them if you want your kitties to grow up healthy. The kitty litter will be up to them. Some don't care, others can be finicky and you might need two boxes if they decide they don't like to share. My boys have been on Science Diet dry food since day one. The breeder even sent a bag home with them when we picked them up. Oh, and get scratching pads with catnip. It's never too early to start redirecting those energies.

The best food for cats and kittens, besides home made, is dry. the best dry are Kirklands, Whiskas and IAMs. Last time I adopted a cat, he had medical issues, so the humane society recommended IAMs dry or Kirkland Dry. The lower the ash content, the better. But some don't say how much of it they have. Be careful there. Feed them home made pet food, when you can The best liter/sand is Scoopaway! At Walmart it comes in heavy boxes and heavy plastic square canisters. Be sure to talk to the kittens like children. Cats and kittens love to hear their person's voice. Dogs and puppies do, too.

Eight week old kittens are VERY active. Be prepared to have to"kitten-proof" everything. As far as going to the vet, I took mine somewhere around 6-8 weeks for a check-up. I used Purina kitten chow. At first i soaked it to make it softer,as their teeth were very delicate at first. Best of luck!
