My boyfriend has never been around welding before and for some "odd" reason he looked into the direct light? but he looks all red in the eye areas and is complaining about not being able to c clearly, and he WON"T go 2 the hospital. So I was wondering if there was something I could do for him here at home. Thanx ya'all.

It's called "flash burn". Normally it is VERY painful but not permanent. The level of pain and the "grit" feeling under the eyelids determine just how bad you got it. If it feels like all of Waikiki beach is there, then you've got it BAD! If the grit feeling is not so bad, then you got lucky. Put in some visine for comfort and wait. Avoid bright lights for a while, like the rest of the day. Keep your eyes closed. Time is the best and possibly only guaranteed cure. "Don't do that again!"

flashing your eyes for a second or two will not cause any long term damage. It aint good to do but before auto darkening helmets welders use to start the arc with mask up to get weld in right spot then nod head to flip helmet down in place. My buddy got arc eye from being a dumbass baxk when we was teenagers. He was trying to weld an exhaust pipe on his car using drive on ramps to lift car. Couldnt get car high enough where he could fit under it with helmet on so he just welded the joint bare faced (about 3 min straight welding) That night he had to be took to the ER, couldnt see at all. Had some kind of cream goo he had to put in his eyes and wear eye patchs for 2 weeks. He was fine after that but you better believe he wears a welding mask any time he is even around a welding arc now. It's alot like the sun and a sunburn. You can go outside in mid summer with out sunscreen on and if your just out in the sun for a short time you will not get a sunburn, stay out in it too long and you do get a sun burn

It is called flash burn. He will be fine in a couple days. Believe me I know. Make him lay down with a cold damp cloth over his eyes. The eye is very resiliant and will heal itself. They are red cause the arc basically flash burned the outer layer of the eye. It probably feels like he has sand paper under his lids. Use some wetting solution like clear eyes for 4 days and just have him rest his eyes in a dark room. No tv or stuff like that cause it will strain the eye. Hope this helps.

Use some visine and keep all the lights off. Also in the future tell him to wear his welding helmet or he's gonna wind up like Stevie Wonder.

you could place ice packs on his eye lids. be sure to put a layer between the skin and ice. The ice might help with the redness and pain if there is any. I would also avoid any bright lights. Have him stay in rooms where the lights are low. hope he feels better.

He can go to the hospital or he can risk permanent damage, if the damage that was done isn't already permanent. There is no such thing as home remedy.

If he doesn't mind damaging his vision, that's one thing. (What is he THINKING??) But you should not try any kind of "home remedy" that might make the problem worse.
