take her to the vet and have it x rayed to see if its sprained or broken. That's your best bet.

If your dog is favoring her leg, or limping it's a good indication she is hurting. She may get swelling around her knee and she may be tender.

The best thing you can do for her is take her to the vet as soon as you can. She is going to be in a lot of pain, and no matter what others may tell you human medications are not suitable for pets.

While you wait for your appointment, but some crushed ice or ice cubes in a zip lock bag then put a thin towel or a couple paper towels on it, and hold it to her leg for 15 to 20 minutes, then take it off, and repeat until you can get her to the vet. This isn't necessary while she is asleep.

Permanent damage can come from falls, especially for small dogs like Doxies. She is very small and still growing, taking her to the vet can help eliminate the idea of a break or worse damage. Sprains can sometimes be very painful to dogs, it's worth it to pay for the check up, rather than her be in pain for a couple of weeks, or worse the rest for her life.

Also, you can start her on a glucosamine, and ester c supplement. Probably, half a tablet a day since she's so small. But these are not to take the place of a vet, only in addition to.

Good Luck, i hope she feels better.

You don't tell, the vet tells by doing a physical exam first, then xrays if he thinks it's necessary.

Call the vet, tell them she's injured and let them decide.

We had a puppy come in to the office a couple of months ago with what the owner thought was a sprain...it was a fracture. The pup spent 6 weeks in a cast. Could have been less time if taken care of immediately.

I just went through this actually. You should take her to the vet ASAP. My dog feel aswell and I called the emergency vet and they said that it is probably just a sprain, because of the symptoms, and to bring it in on Monday morning, it happened on a Sat. night. When I brought him in they relized that he had broke his growth plate in his knee and he needed reconstructive emergency sugery by a vet 2 hrs away, which ended up costing $4000. And the reason was because it his bone had moved up higher because it was left for only a day 1/2. I suggest you take your dog to the vet ASAP as you won't know what it is until she gets a x-ray done. Hope urs isn't as bad as mine.

If she is not able to walk on it properly, I would take her to the vet to check it out, tendons are spooky things in dachshunds and you want them to heal correctly. I wouldn't try any treatments at home. Their backs get out of whack so easily I would definitely get her checked out.

Awww poor baby! What did she fall off of? Hopefully nothing too bad. Just give her a few days like 2-3 days if shes still majorly babying it take her to the vet. My pit hurt his leg and he was babying it alot for the 1st 2 days and after that he was pretty much okay, but i still took him to the doctor. Doctor said it was nothing but twisted and couldnt do nothing for me. So I paid $200 something dollars for nothing! :)

You tell if it's sprained/broken/fractured/torn ligaments/bruised by taking her to the vet. Before it gets any worse.

If it is, you treat it by doing what the vet says

Go and take her to the vet a.s.a.p! The vet will most likely give her an x-ray to see what's wrong... but this could be costy if you dont have pet insurance! Go to:

If you dont already have it (the cheapest around) beofre going if you can! Good luck... and I hope you dog gets better soon!

my dog broke his leg because a cement bird bath fell on him, we took him 2 the vet and they gave him a cast. if your dog is hyper like my dog, be careful when u cut the cast off because we accidentily cut a tiny part of his tongue off.( just a tiny tiny bit)

You should take her to the vet to make sure it isn't broken. It may need to be in a cast for it to heal.
