Ummmm.....yeah!
Did you get this done professionally? They should have told you all of that and given you a care sheet. I was told not to go into the sun for at least 8 weeks.

When you get a tattoo done they tell you not to sit in the sun at all, and not to swim for 4 weeks. Well, as you are supposed to cover the tattoo with something forever, and you sat in the sun right away, what do you think. No wonder it isn't any good. It doesn't matter what you put on it, the sun is just going to bleach it out. I had mine done in the summer and I walked around with a bandana on my arm to keep it from getting any sun, and I had suntan lotion under the bandana. If you want to get a tattoo, listen to the instructions.

It could be the tanning, but I think it sounds like the ink wasn't put in deep enough. When that happens, the scab will fall off & take most of the ink with it. Also, be careful what creams/ointments you put on fresh tattoos, as some of them can get in the holes in your skin & lighten the ink.
Get it redone by someone who knows what they are doing, and forget tanning unless you want to ruin it longer term!

you should never get uv or sun on a new tat. you should know the health risks you are doing to your body by tanning with an open wound, cause that's what it should be treated as.
that is why your tat faded. yes your artist should cover the re-tatting, but do take care of it. your health is in danger until it is completely healed. thanks for listening.

Yup. Tanning fades the tattoo ink over time and if it was not healed I'm sure that process would be accelerated.

first mistake was not going to the pro's. didint you think about disease and infection if the equipment isnt sterilized properly? also tatty artists would be telling you no swimming or tanning as well as other useful information when you get it done in a parlor.

Tanning will certainly bleach or fade a tattoo. Your artist should have warned you against that.

You aren't supposed to expose your tattoo to sun (real or fake 'n' bake style) while healing and it's best to minimize sun exposure even on a well established tattoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did your tattoo artist not tell you this or did you just not listen?
