To do it yourself you need a scanner. You will scan the pictures to your computer and then they can be put on Cd's or DVDs.
You may also want to adjust the contrast & brightness while they are on the computer.

2500 at 25p each is £625. A decent slide scanner would be £600 minimum, automated feed attachment another £200-300. Add to that the time for you to learn how to use it, load it up, process the files, save down to DVD etc. and you're probably better off letting the shop do all the hardwork. Slide attachments on flatbed scanners don't generally give brilliant results, certainly nowhere near as good as dedicated slide scanners, and you'd only be able to do at most 4-5 at a time...

You need a scanner that is capable of scanning transparancies. Several scanners are capable, but require an optional adapter. The adapter will illuminate the slides from the back and disable the normal scanner light.
