i am in the national guard and i have not been to basic yet, i was wondering how i can get out legally without it looking bad... the reason i ask is because i would like to leave the guard to join the active army without having to wait.

ok so i heard that there are two contracts one when you join and one when you actually go to basic... my guard recruiter is the only person telling me that the guard is different from the active army and there is only one contract so i cant get out, he says i have to wait untill 6 months after training to make a request, but the army recruiter says that i can tell them i changed my mind and get discharged... i would like to get into the active army ASAP

Go to a regular Army recruiter and tell him your story. I'm sure he can help you make the transfer.

When i went to basic, there was a day that the personnel sergeants gave us a briefing, and they asked if any wanted to go active that they could do the paperwork there, I dont know what the policy is now, but I would talki to an Army recruiter asap, it can all change at the mepps center too

May I make a suggestion??? Basic training is the same either way.
Maybe just go to basic and be sure this is the right decision for you , It'll give you time to think, , but still satisfy the most basic requirement, basic training.
Thank you for wanting to serve. Good luck.

PS> I've seen guardsman and reservists decide during basic to go RA(Regular Army) and there are people on base to help you. Nothing to it!

The Guard recruiter will be a little upset, but go to basic trng first and when you are finished with AIT and come home, you can then go to any Recruiting Station and make the switch! That way everybody will make mission!

Talk to an active recruiter, you go to basic your National Guard unit will be less likely to release you (they have invested training , they want something from their investment)

Definately wait and go to basic. Just like Senator.....said, you may hate it. If you do, you only have to go once a month. Once your active, it is everyday. Take your time, learn what it is all about and make an informed decision. This is not a small decision.

Good Luck either way! HOOOAH!

that's some bullshit. you don't have to wait 6 months unless you already been to basic. if u haven't been to basic yet and you wanna go active, then you can. guard recuriters will lie to you because they don't want you to go active and they need their numbers. call and active duty recruiter and get with them. as a matter of fact, if you're going to basic and a.i.t. straight through, either at the end of basic or when you get to a.i.t., ask your drill sergeant can you go to the one stop because you wanna go active. just to let you know, if you haven't been to basic yet then them contracts don't mean ****. you can go active.
