Christians and NON stupid people only.
Do you guys think that all of these kids (im young myself) that dress like FallOutBoy and Avril Lavigne and every other fad in society, and still CLAIM to be Christians are doing more harm to the spreading of our Faith and not to mention our reputation among nonbelievers. Our notability and credibility is shriviling in my eyes due to these posers that CLAIM to be Born again, yet they are not seperated from this world at all.....What do you guys/gals think?

Apparently you people that say that dressing emo isnt fitting in, has NOT seen the public school system lately....completely full of these guys/gals......and many people are misunderstanding my point......do these people not misrepresent Christianity by looking like people that are predominatly non-believers....thats the point....they are looking like the same people that are PRO-homosexuality, PRO-Abortion, and PRO-liberalism in society.

BLACK DRAGON....
Romans 12:2 (Whole Chapter)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
This means to not conform....as in be different...seperate....

I would agree with much of what you say.
"Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. "
Romans 12:1,2
However I would also make the observation that Paul was speaking to those who have passed into an awareness of the things he states in the preceding chapters. Sometimes the "grave cloths" are slow to be removed.
You would probably enjoy some of the sermons on this website: http://sermons.christiansunite.com/

So being part of the world is bad for a Christian?
Why get involved in politics or anything in society?
After all you are saying a "Born Again" Christian shouldn't be involved in things of this world. Politics and ideas of a society are definately part of this world.
Why worry so much about what others are doing? Focus more on what you are doing! Didn't Jesus say he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Are you perfect?

I understand perfectly what you mean.
Similaryly, there was a question on here recently about dressing up for Church - is it a requirement or does it make you more spiritual.
Well, at 1 Timothy 2:9,10 speaking of women to adorn themselves with modesty and soundeness of mind, in a way that befits women professing to reverence God.
So likewise with teens, whether male or female. We should refrain from being part of the world, in the sense we don't adopt the fads of this world.

I agree with you to a point!
But we can't help but to be apart of the world in some ways. Fashion is to be apart of the world. A leather coat is to be apart of the world. Wearing jeans and jewelry is to be apart of the world... yet we do. I dont think that our salvation is dependant on any of these things.
Just because we are yet Christian... does not mean that we cannot have a self-identity. Jesus just does not want us to be so consumed with what the world expects from us, that we lose ourselves in it. I actualy think its great that we have Christian rock music and so on. If this is what it takes to reacha new generation so be it. As long as Jesus Christ is receiving the honor and not we, ourselves.
It's not about what you wear, its about the person you are!

I agree. The young Christians should find their own individuality in Christ and not imitate the world's or society's standards of dress. We are in the world but not of it. We don't have to conform to the world but be separate from it in our actions and our appearance. We can be unique and fashionable without being lewd or appearing sexual, or showing a lot of skin.

No. I think the Westboro Catholics, with their plain ol' jeans and t-shirts do a better job of butchering the Faith.
Everyone follows trends. Wearing parachute pants in the '80s didn't make you any less a Christian, and wearing Converse nowadays doesn't either.
Edit: On second thought... I don't know any emo/gothic people who are Christian.

Er, the Moral Majority, Christian Coalition, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Bush, Fred Phelps, the antiabortion movement, and the creationists have already completely trashed Christianity's reputation.
I doubt that anyone was turned away by the kids you're talking about, whoever the hell they are.

dressing like an emo or a punk is hardly fitting in.
I bet you dress like a pop star.
EDIT: so they don't agree with you on politics? does that automatically make them bad Christians?
Your arrogance is outstanding. Emo is a trend and everytime I see an emo I laugh at the way they dress.
you must be popular in school.......

You apparently noticed what so many of us already have.
Whoever they are learning from hasn't gotten near to teaching them everything yet.
While they(and us too!) can be taught and shown, it will of course be entirely up to them to apply it to their lives. And if they follow it as a rule, have they not then merely made the new test. another set of laws, to fall into a legalism? Must it not come from their heart?

Jesus wore clothes that were popular in his time. Does that mean that he was a bad example for non believers?
