We say, "God help anyone that hurts my children."
This means what exactly?
That God should show mercy on them? God should forgive?
Why state or wish that God should help someone who has caused your family pain?

Several answers mention that God should help those who sinned because their victim's family will exact revenge.

I knew I would get those answers and disagree.

The person doing wrong should receive no help from God, even if he was kicked half to death by those he's angered. A vengeful beating doesn't compensate for a calculated rape or murder of a child, so why should God help them?.

In fact, isn't the one doing the kicking being just as bad?

The G-d of Israel is a God of mercy and thats where that saying comes from. However, He is also a G-d of justice. This is the way we are to be... merciful, because G-d made an example of that to us through Yeshua (Jesus)... however since G-d is also a God of justice, He will always mete out proper justice. We do not have the knowledge of someone else and thier motives sufficiently enough to mete out a completely righteous and proper judgement ourselves, which is why G-d said that vengence is His and that it is He that will repay. Having said that, G-d would want you to protect yourself and your children and so you should be careful and wise concerning others that are in contact with you or your children. That is also one of the reasons why G-d gave us the authorities, to serve and to protect, also jails so that these may be restrained from causing harm to themselves or to others. Of course the way the system is as of now on this earth is imperfect, so forgiveness is also called for from the "offender" to our imperfect "justice" as well in some cases. Also, I must say that the act of hurting someone is something that attempts to take another's free will by one's own free will, which is a huge sin, however in the long run will never work, because that is a gift of G-d to every person G-d created. By a person's free will it is impossible to ultimately usurp another's free will (unless that person gives it up of His own free will like Yeshua did) and therefore is pointless to try. And anyway, is very presumptuous and rude. Truly, G-d help these people to know better.

You will have to weigh whether their life is worth going to heaven as to spending eternity in hell. A lot of people do nasty thing out of the wickedness of there heart. They have never known anyone to be kind to them. So when they do start experienceing kindness, it is foreign to them and they do not know how to react to it. The scripture says, "With loving kindness have I drawn thee". Pray for them so God can draw them. I was stationed on a army base where persecuted me for almost two years. I was was distressed, I thought about committing suicide. But, God kept telling me I had to love those people, and I did. Later, I was sent to Germany where I later went to fight in Iraq in 1990. When I came back from Iraq, I picked up a Army times journal. I read about my company, my platoon, my squad that I had been with about 6 months ago. My squad was the very same group that persecuted me when I was at Ft. Riley. I read in the article that they were all killed by friendly fire from a M-1 tank. The Holy Spirit was grieved in me when I read this. I thought to myself, nothing those guys put me through, would be worth not forgiving them. The last thing on my mind was I hope they were saved. My point, you may be the last light someone will ever see in this dark world.

Life is full of contradictions and the extent to which you can handle contradictions is a measure of your sanity. Also, the more sanity, the more you are able to forgive.
Forgiving is one of the activities that requires the highest levels of thought, imagination and wisdom. It is hard to figure out why a person would be forgiving, but it is even harder to figure out how to do it!
Forgiveness is the subject of the last words of Christ as he took his final breath. The words of forgiveness came at the moment of death. How can a world of pain enlighten? Why?

The phrase is meant to say that "God had better show mercy on those people, because I'm not going to". It's not something that a Christian should say. It's vengeful.

when we say that we mean god forgive them and help them. Now you say this because your telling God Ill get out the way and let you handle it. When god handles it he will bring judgment on that person and sometimes no God is not goning to allow anything bad to happen to the person that hurt you and your family but guess what he will bless you exceedingly he will never let that person who hurt you see you doing bad you will be vindicated and forgiving that person because that's what you are doing when you ask god to help them it will keep you from having internal problems because bitterness and unforgiveness couse you to die early.

God can help them. God can also forgive them and have mercy on them. God is not the cause of our problems. We are not perfect but some people just blame for God for everything bad happening in their life.

Cos God is the only one who can save them from the wrath about to come to them. It's just a figure of speech. If someone harms your child, are you really going to give a rat's *** if God helps or protects them? Hell no you won't. Time to thump some skulls.

We say God should help them because they are Innocent and need looking after, or in terms of people that do mean or terrible things, they don't know any better. You want people to learn, grow and change from their mistakes, so you ask God to help them to become better people and contribute positively to society.

Jehovah's Son Jesus was slapped in the face, scourged, and mocked but yet he prayed to his Father Jehovah to forgive them. Jesus said we would be hated because he was hatted. We are not greater than our master are we?
We need to be Christ like and believe me, Jehovah and his Son Jesus sees what we are going through. They both feel our pain that other people cause us. We just need to do our part and God will repay. Vengeance is mine I will repay says the Lord.

When we do what God says and He says "pray for those who spitefully use you," it puts God in charge of vengeance. God said "vengeance is mine, saith the Lord." The Bible says it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of Almighty God. God will not only take care of our family, but God will take care of our enemy.
