John 4:20
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

I would answer this by stating that the term brother refers to a fellow believer.
Nevertheless Jesus told us to love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use us.
The most loving thing I can do to another human being is to tell them how they can reconciled to God through faith in God's atoning sacrifice, the Lord Jesus Christ.
God wishes all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. However those who refuse to submit to the truth of the Gospel and reject the mercy of God will come under the judgment of God.

That is true,

I am a Christian and hate is a sin...

I can disagree with you without hating you, I can even choose not to hate those who have hurt me, Pope JPII gave a great example of this by forgiving the man who shot him.

Hate only hurts the person filled with the hate, we can choose not to hate.

We are not to hate those in our faith OR those outside our faith, all people are our brothers.

Jesus said something like. What glory is it to only love those who love you? Even evil people do that. Jesus called on us to Love everyone.

Peace!

I concur.

Jesus told his disciples..."John 13:35
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

We can reason and debate non-believers but we can't give into the weakness of the flesh which includes hate.

Sometimes people don't want to debate they just want to poke fun at us or try to ridicule our faith. In these instances it is important to end the conversation and just pray for them.

You perceive God's truth in his two commandments without looking at the fact that Jesus was of the Father and not of this world. Confusion lays in APPLYING all Jesus said for we as MORTALS have a totally different set of problems to deal with than Jesus did. WE as humans are not PERFECT, so expand your perception to include that people of THIS world will always HATE for they are of this world. As the faithful of Jesus we can only do our best to fulfill all he taught and love others, though many will reject that love.......

Christians hate what Atheists say and believe and hate that they mock God. Not the person. We pray for the person.

All Christians don't hate others. It's just the "bad apples" that do.

Well said! Well said!

Jesus tells us to love one another as he loved us. He willingly gave his life, even for those who hated him.

A Christian must hate the sin and love the sinner. Jesus said, "love your enemies."
