As a physical entity the bible exists, so therefore it must be believed in. However, the content of the bible is not any more or less valid than any other ancient text. So I do not believe in the content of the bible. It's a good collection of stories, and a mildly historical reference that tells us in many ways the sociological idioms of ancient times. But as for belief, I don't think it is proper to place ones faith in a book that has been edited so many times, by so many religious factions for various different reasons. That would be like believing the works of The Brothers Grimm, or The Canterbury Tales as being factual. When in fact both reflect the social mores of their times just as the bible does, but are not to be taken literally.

Another tactic to get those people who have doubts, to doubt themselves even more. People who are emotionally "weak" (I don't really like using that word here, but it's the one that fits right now) fall for these types of tactics without fail... they look for things to lean on instead of standing on their own and doing their own searching.
People who use these types of statements are the one's who are not being honest. They think they have a handle on the Real World, and obviously they don't. They just throw something like this out and hope some little fish will bite... they might want to becareful though, some fish have teeth and can tear this apart.

Phooey. A lot of people do not believe in the bible. There is a lot of evidence and other BS out there to lead people astray. Is believing in Santa like not being honest with ourselves? The bible exists.

We all have a free will and we all know what is right and what is wrong. I think that it is hard for some people to understand why some people do not believe in the Bible and they assume that they are not honest with themselves.
Jesus is a historical figure, so it is hard for some people to understand why someone denies something what happened in history. : )

There are people on this planet that have never heard of the Bible and are very honest with themselves.

I believe in myself because I never had to read the bible. The day someone told me that I had to believe in a book more than myself caused me to stray away from religion because it's a spooky cult.

Okay if they say so. I'm being totally honest here. I am completely baffled by some of the things that some people say on this site. It is what it is.

Darn. Now I'm going to have to clean off the water I spewed on the keyboard.
And coax the dogs out from the corners in which they are currently hiding.
