I have a EFC of 1370,and plan on going to a community college. Does this mean I have to pay for some of the college, and I read somewhere that its good as long as the number is under 3500,also I know it depends on the college inself, but I was just wondering if anyone knows.
Thanks.

Yes, it is a good number, and if your community college tuition is larger than $1370, you will qualify for a Pell Grant. The EFC refers to Estimated Family Contribution, and it is good for the entire school year (fall and spring semesters/quarters). The amount will change for the FAFSA depending on the figures. If you plan on transfering to a four year college or university, the financial aid figure will adjust to match the school situation. I recommend filing as close as you can to January 1 because depending on the need based scholarship fund of the college, it could mean more scholarships depending on the situation. You will get some more information in the upcoming weeks from the community college in regards to your final financial aid package. I will include some more readings on things. Good luck!

Yes. Whatever your award is, you will be expected to contribute 1370 towards the cost of school. I worked for the dept. of ed. helping people with this for three years. Good luck. This doesn't mean you won't get a good sized award since you are at a community college.

Mine was around 900 last year and they pretty much paid all of mine. I had to pay for some books, but I got a reimbursement check later. It was also at a community college.
